Apple Beta Releases

Hey all.
I’ve seen a lot of people testing out the ios18.1 beta and I was wondering how they are doing it? I’m enrolled in the Apple beta software program but I don’t pay the annual fee. Could somebody please clarify how I can instal the beta on my phone?
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated.
Many Thanks

Natalija

As the subject line says, Apple currently only has this out for the developers. Perhaps, once iOS 18 is officially released they may offer a public beta for 18.1.

I understand that but I have a developer account and it’s still not coming up

I had the 18.0 beta on my M1 iPad Pro, and was able to go into Software Update, dig down, and switch over to 18.1. You should be able to do the same.

Software Update can be confusing. There are controls on that settings screen that are buttons, but VoiceOver doesn't announce them as buttons. And if I recall, the path to the 18.1 beta was hidden behind one of those non-button buttons.

What iPhone model do you have? My understanding is that the iOS 18.1 and iPadOS 18.1 betas are currently only available on devices that support Apple Intelligence (the iPhone 15 Pro and later, and anything with the M1 or later chip).

I have the iPhone 15pro. I did check the settings app but couldn’t seem to find it. Paul. Could you possibly provide some guidance on how you installed it please?

I believe you can sign up for a free developer account with your Apple ID at developer.apple.com.

Could you please confirm to me which version you're currently using?

Simply hit over to setting,s, general, software update, beta updates and select the ios 18 developer beta. Go back and tap update to ios 18.1.

Hi dan05. I’m currently running the ios18 rc on my iPhone 15pro and in response to Michaels comment, I already have a developer account

By Jokyboy129 on Friday, September 13, 2024 - 05:15

The ios 18.1 beta is based on ios 18 beta 8, the rc is technically seen a newer version and that means y_ou can't update.

So how do I fix this problem then?

By Jokyboy129 on Friday, September 13, 2024 - 05:15

There's no way to fix this. You have to downgrade to beta 7 or even iOS 17 and then you can install it.

It should appear further down past the message which says that iOS 18 is up-to-date. My advice would be to wait until the end of the week as it’s likely that beta four will come

Hey everyone.
This is just an update to let you know I have successfully installed ios18.1. Now to play with the AI features.
I do have one question though. In messages for example, how do I get AI to say improve my writing? Or is this still in development?

By Levi Gobin on Friday, September 13, 2024 - 05:15

I don’t know exactly how to get the writing tools to activate, because I don’t have a compatible iOS device myself, but make sure you go into your Siri settings and make sure Apple Intelligence is turned on. it may say you need to join a waitlist. Do that, and within a few seconds up to a few days, you should either get a notification saying that it’s preparing, or that it is available for your iPhone or iPad.

Hey Leo. I’ve already enabled it, I just can’t seem to find the writing tools

By Michael Doise on Friday, September 13, 2024 - 05:15

The easiest way to use Writing Tools is to write text in a text field and then select the text. I think you can then triple tap to bring up a context menu, and Writing Tools should be there. I wish it was a VoiceOver action though.

Hi michael.
I tried to follow your suggestion but couldn’t seem to activate the context menu.
I’m wondering if it’s a bug? Or whether there’s another way to do it?
