Issue with YouTube website and NVDA

I am experiencing an issue with YouTube and NVDA using Google Chrome.

When I go into YouTube and find a video that I want to watch, I go through the usual procedure. That works, nice and well, but when I want to go to the next video. I can usually press shift plus N. However, that doesn’t work.

I think it says no next. All I know is that it says no next something after a block of text, I don’t know what it is because I forgot but all I know is that it won’t do it.

I was experiencing issues with windows that forced me to reset windows through the windows recovery environment, , So I had to reinstall NVDA.

And still it doesn’t work. Could anyone give me any suggestions on what I can do?

Thank you.

when I am in focus mode and press shift n, it goes to the next video.
Maybe try to check Handle keys from other applications in Settings > Keybaord (although I never understood what it really does) but for me it's checked and as far as I can remember it is not checked by default.

Hi there,

I have a couple of suggestions that may help you out. First off, I use NVDA and Edge for YouTube. It is the, only, time I use Edge.

Allow me to explain. . .
If you open Edge, and go to youtube.com, you can download a web app that runs off of Edge. Basically go to the website in Edge, press Alt (or Alt+f) to open the File menu, then arrow down to install apps. Install YouTube should be the top item if you are on YouTube's page.
**Edit: This should be available in Chrome as well.**

Once it is installed, just run that for your YouTube needs. some of the benefits I have found are:
1. No ads. As of yet I have not seen a single video ad this way. That could change in the future of course. Oh, and I do not pay for YouTube Premium.
2. Hotkeys work with this app.

A note about the hot keys. Make sure you have Browse Mode disabled. Do this by pressing NVDA + Space. You will know it is on or not, by the sound effect it makes (type sound for Off, Beep for on).
**Edit: this is known as 'Focus Mode'.**

Hope this helps! 😊

You need to go into focus mode with NVDA space,, then press NVDA plus n, all of these shortcuts require that you're in focus mode.

@TheBlindGuy07,
Yes, possibly, since Edge and Chrome are both chromium; see: the same browser. 😉

@Brad,
Didn't I say that in my post above? 😜

I editted my post above to (hopefully) clarify some things. 😳

Yeah I thought so. Personally I never used the app and don't plan on doing so. The web interface is fine, and the real youtube watching is still on my iphone.

It's all good. Just wanted to offer some tips for getting YouTube hot keys to work for ya. 😉🤷

I just reread your comment and yep, you did.

Just a small correction,, focus mode is when NVDA is focusing on a form field and stuff like that, brows mode is when you're able to use h b t x and the other shortcuts to move through websites
