Issues Accessing Audible.co.uk Search/Combo Box with NVDA in Chrome and Edge

Hello everyone,

I'm reaching out for some help regarding an issue I've been facing with NVDA on Audible.co.uk. Specifically, I am unable to access the search/combo box on the site when using either Chrome or Edge.
Interestingly, the search/combo box works perfectly when I use JAWS, but I'm really trying to transition away from JAWS after 27 years. This search issue is the only thing holding me back.
I've also tested this functionality in Firefox, and it works fine there with NVDA. However, I have a preference for Chrome and Edge over Firefox, though I can't quite remember the specific reasons for my dislike of Firefox.
Has anyone else experienced similar issues or have any suggestions on how to resolve this? Any insights or advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thank you in advance!

Warm regards,

Should I leave this post up for anyone else who has this issue?

The anser is to go to the Search Button and then press shift-Tab and then Tab. This works, don't know why.

Hi!
I'm running into the same issue here with NVDA and chrome. After a little poking around, it seems that Audible might have messed up the ARIA on the div-tag surrounding the search input by giving both it and the search field itself the "combobox" role.
I'd really like to report a couple of UI bugs to audible accessibility, but it was tricky to get ahold of them. Has anyone had any success doing so?

Disclaimer: I am not critisizing add-ons. I use them all the time with NVDA.

This issue could be add-on related. When I go to audible.co.uk, and press tab, it takes me to the search field after pressing TAB a few times. I did not have to shift+tab, though I did so just so that I could say that too, works.

Did this in both Firefox and Edge. 🤷

It's just the way the site has been layed out, you have to tab to the box, it's been that way ever since i've used them, I'm not a fan of audible so i can't remember when that started because I start and stopped a few times.

Hi Brian!
I too am able to use the regular keyboard focus to get to the search field (tab and shift+tab). The issue is purely reading order related for me at least. To reproduce:
1. Go to audible (both .com and .co.uk have this behaviour) in a Chromium based browser like Chrome, Edge or Brave.
2. Make sure NVDA is in browse mode, not focus mode.
3. Press any quick key to go to either form fields, combo box or edit fields (f, c or e), or try finding the search field with the arrow keys in browse mode. You shouldn't be able to.
In Firefox it shows up as it should though.

Thanks Brad!
For me, the more critical accessibility issue on Audible at present is the two buy buttons having identical aria labels, so the user doesn't know whether they're spending credits or money at present.
I tried going through their accessibility procedure to report it, but had no luck. I'll try again with your link.

I really can't check right now, but I seem to remember that was one benefit of using it.

When you do use the 'buy'b button, it always asks you to confirm your purchase and it does tel you at that time if you are using cash or credit, so it is possible to make sure, but it is a pain!

@Mlth,

Yeah, I am guessing the code is weird, or at least, weird in Chromium browsers. now that I think of that, I cannot remember if Firefox is considered Chromium, but I do know Audible works better for me on firefox over Edge/Chrome.

Also, and I think Brad maybe mentioned this, but there is an accessible page for both the US and UK versions of Audible.

US:
https://www.audible.com/access

UK:
https://www.audible.co.uk/access

When you use the 'access' links, you can Tab or arrow or whatever to get to the search field, in my experience, the edit field is just labeled, "Edit", with a, "Search button", to the right of it.

HTH. 😊
