Greetings, I recently received an iPad mini as a gift from one of my sighted friend-- still in the box. I am wondering if there is a way to turn on the voice over without taking sighted assistance? Any help will be greatly appreciated. Thanks

To turn on voiceover with out sighted assistance press the home button three times quickly or you can hold down the home button if siri is enabled and tell siri to turn on voiceover.

Hi, press and hold the power button for about 5 to 6 seconds. wait a while, then press the home key 3 times. that should start voiceover and you should be able to setup the ipad. if you get it setuped by someone, you'll have to go into general accessibility voiceover, and turn it on. you may also want to enable the trippleclick home button to start voiceover in the accessibility menu in that case. There are a few podcasts dealing with unboxing and setting up IOS devices so you may want to have a look at them as well. HTH,

Hello, As far as I know, when you're setting up an iPad, triple clicking the home button to turn on VoiceOver is your only option. As far as for Siri, that won't work until you finish setting up your iOS device. I do have a question as well. Since when can you tell Siri to turn VoiceOver on? I don't recall her being able to do that back on iOS 6.
