It's been a bit since I have done much gaming. What's good out there? Preferably freeware for now. Especially would like to find some good shooter type games. They should have good sound effects. I'm cool if it is a mainstream game that happens to be fully accessible, but I don't want to have to mess around with a bunch of settings and do a bunch of stuff to be able to figure out how to play, just so I can actually get in there and, ya know, actually play.

Putting this out there just in case you've not done it already.
Try asking on audiogames.net if you've not already.
Yes the place can be full of drama but you'll probably get better results there than you would here.
@Brian
Bro, thanks!!! I will definitely give these a look. Sounds like quite a good selection.
Yup
I've been into gaming for many, many, many moons. Both as a sighted person, and a sightless one. You can YouTube some, if not all, of these to get an idea of what they are like. There are a ton of games on that website, but I tried to focus on Action/FPS games, with a sprinkle of other genres for variety.
Enjoy~
Mortal combat?
I've heard from many blind youtubers/gamers that at least a part of mortal combat is accessible for complete blind player?
And yes I would strongl suggest psycho strike and the vale, the latter one of the best release of the year.
Swamp?
I used to enjoy shooting zombies and going on colab missions while talking with my teammates over Skype or whatever. There was actually a little strategy involved in getting all the supply crates out of the zombie-infested warehouses back into your truck. Someone had to stay back at the truck and just give cover fire, different people would take different sections of the building with different weapons being ideal for various situations. Miniguns are an excellent diversion but you'll probably die for your team, arrows are slow but quiet and don't attract zombie attention etc. It was full of drama last I checked but still fun now and then.
Breed Memorial
I love a game called Breed Memorial where you take care of monsters and play games and compete. It is amazing. I have played it since ages. as for multiplayer games I'd say Alter Aeon. I am on it every day. It has lots of content. I really enjoy crafting. Crazy Party is also a game I like and it has tons of games in there all different.
Re: Mortal Kombat
I have yet to play the latest MK game. On my old Xbox One S, I have Mortal Kombat 9 aka 2011 Reboot, Mortal Kombat XL, and Mortal Kombat 11 Ultimate. The last one has a modicum of accessibility for blind players, primarily top level menu/game screens are TTS enabled. Both MK 11 and MK XL also introduced the interaction feature where you can do things like, swing from one side of the arena to the other, or pick up random objects to throw at your opponent, etc. There is an option in the Audio for both games to allow a type of sonar like sound cue when your fighter is near an interactive item.
So there is that. Otherwise they do not really have much in terms of blind accessibility.
The new Mortal Kombat 1 however, is reported to have a full on screen-reader builtin, as well as audio described cutscenes and finishing moves. I plan on getting that for PC, but will have to wait till this Autumn, as I am too busy with school to really focus on a brand new game.
As for the other MK games I already own, I have a series of notes on my iPhone for each game, telling me things like how many times to press a direction and the (A) button on the Xbox controller to access different modes and menus. It probably seems daunting, but I suppose it helps that I have been gaming for many years, and I am quite tenacious. 😀
Sound RTS
Sound RTS is a free real-time strategy game, with a style similar to that of Warcraft. It even supports multiplayer.
I think with a bit of refinement this game would be lots of fun.

Castaways
by apron the same guy who did swamp I think is a very nice semi real time rpg game on windows too.

I won't recommend you posting links to Blind Help's website, because they contains many pirated software and games. You could be in trouble with the moderators and breaking the forum rules.

Swamp
I downloaded and tried to mess around with Swamp, but I can't move forward. I understand you are supposed to use a mouse, but something is different with a touch pad because the only thing I could do was shoot, but it wasn't registering me turning or trying to move forward.
In addition to that, rather than a read me, a game tutorial of sorts would have been nice, as I feel like I often learn better doing it as I go instead of trying to read and memorize a readme.
MK 1 on ps5 is 99 percent accessible.
There's audio description,, moves lists, tts menus, sounds for I think all the visual feedback, kicks punches throws, all that, even the mode where you go through and fight in a chess like fassion, I forget the modes name now, is quite accessible, some mini games aren't obvious and you might need to skip ones that require dodging from left to right, but this mode has diffirent stories each month.
I will admit this game isn't for me, but I did try it and am very very impressed with what we got.
Re: MK1
Yes, please! I cannot wait to be finished with my current certification program so I can dedicate a minute or 3 to playing the latest MK game.
I just hope it is more enjoyable to play than MK 11 was/is. MK 11 feels like too much of a grind/micro transaction hell, to be enjoyable anymore. Still I play it, because I do enjoy the amount of customization you can do per character. 😀
@brian
Ah, i've not tried it but i doubt customising is accesssible.
Not exactly...
The MK 11 voice guided menus only take you so far, but luckily I have patient friends who are willing to sit with me and tell me how many times to press down, or right, or whatever, to get to the correct spot to, say, give Cassie Cage a new pair of guns, or Scorpion a cooler looking spear, or better outfit for Sub-Zero, etc, and so on.
Customizing the moves are even easier, because I have notes that have helped me to map out the game menus so I can go in with, say, Johnny Cage, and give him a special moveset like he had in MK2, or MK XL, just because, I like how those builds play, or rather what I can do with said builds.
The one thing in MK 11 that urks me to no end, though, is the character select screen on the customization mode. For every other game mode when you pick a character, it announces them with an announcer (Johnny Cage is my current announcer), but not in customize mode. So I have to remember that Scorpion is the very first character, and how many taps right and/or down to get to a different characer.
All in all MK 11 is fun, but definitely requires patience if you are blind.
Also the micro transaction thing in video games are really ruining gaming for me in general. 😞
Oh.
I meant mk1 on ps5.
Yeah micro transactions aren't good.
Honestly, i'm just holding out for The last of us 3 and then i'll probably sell my ps5 at game.
If something huge happens with blind game accessibility, I might buy a ps6 but I don't see how far they can go with it, unless they added some kind of crazy AI to the machine that helped blind people play, then, then i'd buy it.
Re: MK1, part deux
Yeah, I do not have MK 1 yet. As I mentioned above, too busy with school to invest in the time to learn a new game. I "want" to play it, of course.
maybe later this year when school is over and I (hopefully) earn my cert.
Sounds good.
I hope you enjoy it.
Try Brok
Try Brok: The InvestiGator.
The developer has put in a lot of efforts in accessibility.
It's available in itch.io and Steam. If you buy it on itch.io, you'll also get a steam key.
Has Hadies been mentioned yet?
The second game is out on a pre release kind of thing.
It's one of those roguelike games, you fight, die, get stronger, fight die get stronger... There's a great story and in a couple days the second game is going to get a mod to make the screen reader read items, I believe the first one is going to get a similar makeover too.

Re: Hades
I remember catching a YouTube vid on that game, along with a mod that made it (more or less) accessible, with some game tweaks, a TTS, etc.
Seemed liked an interesting game overall, would be nice to see more games like that become accessible for blind gamers. :)
Minecraft (Java version for PC)
I posted a link regarding this a long while back, but there is a collection of mods for the Java version of Minecraft for Windows, thagtt makes the game incredibly accessible.

I have lots of fave games
I have lots of fave games for Windows. I used to enjoy BSC Games titles, as well as those from Draconis Entertainment, Nyanchan Games and Oriel Gaming Zone. I took a break from Windows for a couple of years, and have only had my Windows 11 machine for just over a week, but games I have on here so far are "Pacman Talks", "Super Egg Hunt Plus", "Blinder Guide", "Coin Collector" and "Shooter Nostalgic". I want to try "Scramble" and "Galactic Strike" as well.
I really hope that
Applevis merge all topic about gaming into one gaming forum platform agnostic one day.
For swamp I have a very negative experience, basically I was only able to shoot for 5 minutes before getting killed in whatever the free style mode is called. I was never able to get into any real task/mission. The navigation on the map was such a pain, plus all sorts of very weird bugs.
Personal gaming
Lately, that is to say the past few years, my gaming has mostly been on my Xbox or iPhone. As my current PC is only a few months old, I have not delved too deep into the world of accessible PC gaming. Even my recent foray with Forza Motorsports was an Xbox title. I was just lucky enough to be able to tryout Gamepass Ultimate as it was included with my PC purchase.
I am aware there are a ton of accessible games for PC, and maybe once I finish my current Cert, I will have some time to explore. 😄
As Dusk Falls
If you enjoy story driven games, this one is a gem! Its available on both Xbox and PC.

I doubt applevis will do that.
We have audiogames.net for that perpous.
