Yes, in time.

There are two things here. Chat GPT 4o, which is already out and a faster response time compared with GPT 4.0 and then there is the and instant chat which was demoed on Monday which isn't out yet at all. It will come to everyone in time but will come to those with plus, IE, the paid version first. When people get the new advances seems to be the differentiator between paid and free acounts now, though paid accounts also have more responses per day.

In short, you can't get it yet, no one can.

Hi,
The real-time image description functions and related features haven't been released yet. However, Be My Eyes has already stated that they plan to implement them, so it's just a matter of being patient and waiting.
As for the free GPT-4 text generation, you can already go to the ChatGPT website or app and try it out for yourself. Keep in mind that free users have a much lower daily message limit compared to paid users, and there's a limit of, I think, 3 files that you can attach, such as images, PDFs, PowerPoint presentations, etc. However, these last ones didn't work for me, so I think it's an option to exclude for now.
Best regards.

We can't really expect cutting edge technology for free. It costs them a vast amount to develop and run such applications, money that has to be made back. Meta does it by selling your data, maybe that's what Open AI will do down the road, but we're not getting any of this for free, nor should we.

I don't mind paying for Services, but $20 per month, well, US dollars, is $3000 in my currency. How am I supposed to find $3000 per month? These tasks, some of them, are tasks that can be done by a sighted user for free. Now, obviously I'm not saying that we should get the product for free, because it definitely takes maintenance For them to work. I like the possibility of having some, or all of the aspects, for free, but with a limit. For example, 50, or 100, messages on the free plan for the Services. It's an unfortunate part of the game, I know. Not complaining, but, yeah. This is only an observation on my part, so don't come for me. Services are not cheap, and we have to pay for them. I get that. 100% understand the logistics behind it. I think it's sad when large companies have the money to maintain or offset the cost of a product, yet underpay their employees, while charging customers an arm and a leg, but, again, that's just life. I'm also not saying that this is the case here, only a general observation.

But it isn't clear to me which of these AI systems is going to come out on top for accessibility and usefulness for blind people, then be worth paying for in a subscription. Look at the AI glasses war, and people rushing to get one pair, then switching to the other, then we find out the other won't read like the first, and so on, and so on. A lot of months, my data is or are all I have available to pay/barter for these services. I'm also very skeptical that the payed services aren't somehow selling the user data.
Apple, if they integrate more of this type of AI into iOS, has a nice way of letting us pay for it, by way of needing to by a new device every few years. I can live with that too.

I agree that £20 a month is rather expensive and I understand the frustration that it serves to level the field with our sighted peers and maybe that is what Be My Eyes seeks to address.

We will get it for free, eventually. Until then, I'm happy to pay to get it sooner. My reasoning is I don't have kids or a car so it's both affordable and I can chalk it up to transport/utilities.

Check out money pants over here! £20 is... Damn, i was trying to think of something that it easily covers but, to be honest, it's three pints, a meal out, a couple of short Uber rides... When did everything get so expensive!

I'd argue that, if it does what Andy demoed reliably, I'd pay ten times that for such round the clock asistance... Though I might have to stop eating for a while.

No worries, food is highly overrated considering such sophisticated technology at your fingertips.

And hey, if you get hungry, just lick your iPhone. Or your Android. You rascal, you. 😝

I'm just waiting for all the AI dust to settle before considering what I might want to use or purchase or lease. If I have to trade my data to get something I need or want, that's fine.

hi i asked gpt plus when will the voice and imaging features be available, and i got this when asked how will i know? The new video, voice, and image features for ChatGPT are being gradually rolled out. Initially, Plus and Enterprise users will gain access over the next two weeks. If you are a Plus user, you can check for these features by going to Settings → New Features on the mobile app and opting in. If you don’t see the features immediately, they should become available soon as the rollout progresses. For more details, visit the OpenAI blog.

I wouldn't trust an AI to tell me when the next version of itself will be releast.

These things tend to hallucinate, quite convincingly.

By Ramy on Monday, May 20, 2024 - 21:53

great news, but what about the free version?

By Ollie on Monday, May 20, 2024 - 21:53

NExt few months I'd guess.

Also, I got a similar response from chat GPT re rollout, and I don't trust it one iota. It is rolling out over the next few weeks for paying users, but I don't think it will appear in settings, as far as I understand it, it will just appear.

By DMNagel on Monday, May 20, 2024 - 21:53

Yesterday or the day before, here in South Africa, we just got the memory management and it was pretty much in settings. I wouldn't trust the normal chat GPT three on Much, but GPT 4 and GPT 4O seem to be a lot more accurate and considerate in their responses. Still, it helps to be safe. It's worth noting that the free version of ChatGPT can't even analyse, nor search the web.

Having good descriptions is great. Sometimes I need something a little more, like a tactile picture, an image in relief, a 3D model.
Maybe... one day the AI will help with generating those types of things from images for blind people. I know at least one member dabbles in 3D printing. I can find out Andy's ducks are floating in a pond, but I have to resort to plastic, farm animals for children to understand exactly what a duck looks like if I've never seen one, or in some blind people's cases, never handled one. I doubt the ducks would participate too well with that.
I suppose that is one of the new dreams for me, now that we are on the edge of having descriptions on demand.

It is possible to have AI create STL files though the output isn't quite there yet. You might get something that you're told is a chicken but, buddy, it ain't a chicken.

I do all my 3D designs by coding them myself, still, it's getting there. If you're interested, there is a chat GPT called something like Openscad helper, which will help create the code to compile into an STL.

By OldBear on Monday, May 20, 2024 - 21:53

Thanks, Ollie. Well ya, I suppose if the AI is using stuff from the internet as learning models, it could come up with very funky chickens... Maybe that's not such a good idea...
It might not even be AI I'm talking about. Software converting an image into a usable raised-line/tactile drawing by filtering out a lot of detail, or transforming it into relief/flattened-3D would be useful to me. I just assumed AI could make this less human-involved. As it is,getting someone to make a raised-line drawing by bartering them an adult coloring book is my current method.
