Accessibility Comments

There are unlabeled or mislabeled buttons here and there. The app probably turns the volume up to a hundred percent once launched so get ready for that. Once you first install and open the app, you tap on "Camera" and "Microphone" to get the permission prompts for both, and then you're asked to give permission for local network access, as this app requires two devices to record 3-D audio. Then the premium screen shows up and you can dismiss it, only to have it back in a few seconds. Only after purchasing an annual subscription could I finally get rid of the premium screen reappearing in a few seconds. Once you select the recording tab, you start recording with the unlabeled button there. The button labeled as "Switch" might switch the flash off and on, but then you have another button labeled "flashIcon" so I don't quite know what exactly these two do. An audio cue is supposed to play when you double-tap the unlabeled button to start recording, but there have been instances where it wouldn't. Also, recording may just happen to stop unexpectedly or for some reason that I have not yet been able to figure. One more thing is that VoiceOver says things like "10s", "20s" and "15.0m", which should stand for 10 seconds, 20 seconds and 15 minutes respectively. When you purchase a premium subscription, the recording duration is extended from some duration that could be either 10 or 30 seconds to 15 minutes. VoiceOver still sometimes says "10s" or "20s" even after you purchase a subscription though. All in all, you can use the app but the experience needs to be made smoother for VoiceOver users. I will try to reach out to the developer.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

Most buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

There are some accessibility issues with this app, but it can still be used if you are willing to tolerate these issues and learn how to work around them.

Other Comments

I've got my old iPhone SE 2020 back from my brother a few days ago, and just come across this app no more than a few hours after my futile attempts to communicate with the developers of Tape It. Since the app requires two devices to record 3D audio, and can provide better results at a much lower cost than Tape It's allegedly incredible stereo recording, I believe this is a blessing from Allah. I now have two iPhones to record 3-D audio with, and this app to use for this purpose.
Since the app is intended to record video as well as audio, you are supposed to hold both devices with the back cameras facing the front, and the screens facing your back. You can hold the devices in portrait or landscape orientation with the speakers facing one another.
Note that the website (soundx.app) is there for reference only. I considered not providing it at all but then thought it might become available again sometime. It is the website that the "Developer Website" option on the App Store redirects you to, after all.

The first one is the link to a video that demonstrates SoundX, and you can find several others on the same channel. The second video, in turn, contains instructions on how to use the app. I tried getting in touch with the developer but doubt I will receive a reply. You may also try reaching out to the developer at reapps@reappsllc.com, writing a review on the App Store or commenting on the Youtube videos. The website (soundx.app) appears to be no longer available, so we will either somehow get in touch with the developer and hope the app becomes more accessible, or ask for sighted assistance on how to get the best results out of the app.

This app seems great but the accessibility is awful. Also the subscription button keeps popping up all of the time and I find it hard to get out of there. I do not want to subscribe to this thing and it is awful. I also think the recording is very unreliable and the free version has too little time. I have two devices and haven't tried properly because of all those things. The app is a good idea but it is nothing I ever want to subscribe to or use at all because of the accessibility and the subscription thing.

I have updated the accessibility rating to better reflect the actual situation, so thanks for that! I could use the app and actually get some decent recordings. Though, as I also stated earlier, there have also been instances where the app would just close, recording would stop, the audio cue wouldn't play, or the recording wouldn't sound right. It appears to be hit-or-miss, or most likely miss and sometimes hit, to somehow have VoiceOver announce where to position each of the two devices (L or R). Still, the app is worth a try, especially if we can somehow reach out to the developers or get sighted assistance. I have the Sennheiser Ambeo Smart Headset to record 3-D audio, but it is intended primarily for ambient sounds/soundscapes. This app, however, lets you record individual sound sources and easily audible sounds with better clarity according to the videos on the Youtube channel. Though it's a shame, considering these videos were uploaded by the developer specifically to demonstrate the app, that the car recording sounds like mono, and you hear everything behind in several other videos.

I’m not trying this since I don’t have a backup phone. But it’s good to have these alternatives.
I hope the developer listens to feedback regarding accessibility.

It's probably a better solution to get a cheap pair of Sennheiser Ambeo Smart Headphones from Amazon, they are sold off for about 40 Euros, comparing to the 299 price tag in the beginning.
Yes, they are out of production and only have a lightning connector. But they are great sounding headphones, have 3D microphones with a pritty good sound quality and can be used with the normal voice memos app on your phone. From what I have seen of the app, far cheaper and more reliable in the longrun.

The Ambeo Smart Headset is primarily intended to record soundscapes. As its name suggests, it does a decent job of capturing the ambient sounds around you, like bird chirps or distant chatter, but is not so good at recording individual sounds that are meant to be clearly audible and recorded in a quiet environment. This app does that better. Also, I purchased this app as its price is set differently for Türkiye, and is much cheaper compared to the Smart Headset, which I also have as I stated earlier. I will have paid less than what I paid for the Smart Headset even if I use the app for four whole years. The situation may be different there, so this is understandable. By the way, the Ambeo Smart Headset will become more obsolete as more iDevices with a lightning port become unusable and get replaced with those with a USB C port over the years.
