Hey, on notepad on windows 11, everything latest version.... there is this very annoying shorcut, when you press any ctrl + right shift it will switch the reading order of the text from right to left, and vice versa with ctrl + left shift. Is there a way to disable this shorcut? It becomes very annoying when selecting text and finds ctrl left arrow reads the text in the proper sence...

Hi,
If you use the Left Shift key plus Control, you won't have this problem. When I pressed CTRL Left Shift and the left and right arrow keys, the text didn't seem to switch. I've just pressed CTRL + Right Shift + Right arrow, and yes the text switched to displaying from right to left presumably. So I was reading the word 'hello' backwards. Using the Right Shift key with Control is bloody difficult anyway. I have to press CTRL with my left hand, and Right Shift with my right hand, then the arrow keys somehow. If you use CTRL + Left Shift plus the left and right arrow keys, you should be able to select text that way and delete it or whatever. The text switching from right to left only happens with the Right Shift key.

So I looked quickly in notepad's settings. I am so happy that these are not system wide shortcuts yet, but I don't think we can disable it. One might say why not use an older version of notepad? The only useful thing notepad does on win11 for me is how it can support both crlf and lf line endings. Since I wrote notes on both my mac and windows this is very useful. I have notepad++ but I don't like to open it just to write non technical text. Thanks though.

Hi,
I googled around and found the below article about remapping the right shift key to the left shift key.
https://answers.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/forum/all/how-to-disable-shift-ctrl-shortcut-in-notepad-to/b1e38630-3f26-4046-9f56-3fabe0123c15

And I tried asking copilot. I got a different response, but maybe it'll help.
