Hi, after the disappearance of the html version of gmail on its webpage, what do you use on windows to check your mail?
Personaly I hate the new view because I have to remember a lot of kystrokes to do simple actions and I would like a more easy way of checking my email.
Also I recall the html view where I could read pdf documents as html and they where very easy to read.
kinds regards.

The iOS Mail app works fine.
Microsoft Outlook on Windows also works fine even with Gmail addressed accounts.
Basically any client that supports IMAP also works, e.g., Thunderbird. Note, I am not for sure if you need to go into Gmail settings and manually enable IMAP or not as I set up my accounts years ago, but Google will know.

It's easy, just write your name, email, and password, press enter on done and you're well, done.

You're going to want to change some settings in settings, for example I changed the general settings to have messages open in a new tab.

It's quite nice once you get used to it.

I use Outlook for Windows as I subscribe to Microsoft 365 and also, the iOS Gmail app.

I was forced to learn the standard view keystrokes when I was using a chromebook as my main computer, that chromebook was the most seemless way I've ever done gmail but it's not what I use now. I'll mostly check e-mails with the gmail android app although now that I have an iPhone too I'm finding the mail app there works pretty well too. Still to write longer e-mails, manage filters etc it's now mostly the gmail web site with NVDA. I hated standard view for a few months now I don't think I'd ever go back.

I've used the Gmail standard view for years and I don't miss an email client.
I can check my email everywhere on any device with Chrome and NVDA.
However, on my iPhone I prefer to use the Gmail app.
On a PC it's standard view with Chrome all the way.

I have a Gmail account which is configured to forward all incoming messages to the e-mail address that I actually use. I never send messages from the Gmail address. The incoming messages are mostly, if not entirely, Google Groups posts anyway.
I use my own domains for mail.

Jason, how did you configure your Gmail messages to go to another account? Thanks. I hope this is an easy thing to do because I really don't like Gmail. It's probably because I don't know it as well as Outlook.

My biggest complaint complaint with Standard view is that I have to toggle forms mode on and off to read messages. Is there a better way? I also don't enjoy the fact that there is no quick way to sign out of accounts through Gmail itself. I've taken to using Outlook on the PC and the native iOS Mail app.

Hi Scott, I find setting forms mode to manual works best for me although I can see a tradeoff there. I think NVDA handles web apps a little better with focus and browse modes in their default settings so I usually use it instead although Jaws with manual forms mode works.

Well, on gmail main interface, you can use Shift-o to open a message. In that way it opens in a new window and NVDA automatically switch to browse mode.
There is an extension for gmail that allow you to use the delete key for deleting mails, instead of the # key.
The trick is to learn a few shortcuts, not many, just a few to make email management easier.

Find the options in Gmail's settings in the desktop web interface (not basic), on a tab by that name. You can forward to another address and optionally delete the copy held by Google. If you use rules, you can also selectively forward mail, so you don't have to get everything and/or you can keep using Gmail for certain things. I used to use Gmail for my domains, but I don't anymore.

Of course, you could also go the other way, and have Outlook pick up your Gmail email directly. In these unenlightened times of email authentication breaking forwarding left right and centre, it might actually be more reliable, too.

I also use outlook in my desk top windows 10. No issues. The only problem with outlook is that I can not add my iCloud email. I was able to do it in the past but now can not. It keeps telling me that it can not find the account.

Hello all,
I am trying to learn Jaws on Windows after decades of using the Mac. As part of this learning, I am trying to use Thunderbird. Setting up my Gmail account was easy. But navigating through the messages needs some learning. My question is how do you switch between the message list and the message pane back and forth? I am looking for some equivalent of VO + J.
Any other settings to make my email life easy would be welcome.
Thanks

I think you're talking about the treeview, I press shift tab to until i hear treeview then arrow up and down until I hear what I want, press enter then tab a couple times to the message table.

A settting I can think of that might make your life easier is one where each message appears in its own window.

Go to settings, alt t, then arrow up twice and press enter.

Now press r until you hear open messsages in: I chose a new message window and like it personally but there are 3 options there.

It makes jumping to the table and treeview so much easier.

f6 jumps forward and shift f6 jumps back.
