Ios 16 or Ios 17

I just got an Ios16 iphone SE. I haven't heard many good things about ios 17. Those who updated to ios17 do you prefer it over ios16? Does it have fewer bugs? Did you regret upgrading? My main focus is stability and fewer bugs not new features.
Thank you very much

Apple change the way Siri listen to questions. She is not working well at this time. Suggest you wait for iOS 18. Many people are having issues with VO and siri and other issues. If your iPhone can handle iOS 18, wait and get that.

No one can tell you to update. No one can tell you not to update. No one can tell you if they regret if they updated. Why am I saying these things? because it baffles me that so many people want a sure thing before upgrading. Case in point, people use siri for voice over. I don't so I'm not having some issues others are. that doesn't give me the authority to denounce what they are going through because it's not in my use case. If you want to upgrade, do so because you want too. If you don't care about the latest features where there are a few nice ones such as stolen device protection, that's up to your choice. You can not downgrade once you update until the next update. It's the same with the beta cycle testing. People want a sure thing before they update devices, is this bug fixed? Is that bug fixed? Nothing will change as long as we wait for someone else to try it out first, then say it's ok to update, said in a soothing voice. If your use cases changes for the better or worse, it will be because of how you use your device in your own life case. No one can do this for you. If you want to wait until IOS 18 that's absolutely fine. Just do what makes you comfortable. Stop looking before you leap.

In IOS 16, the focus jumping bug was driving me nuts. When I bought my iPhone 15 Pro that came with IOS 17, the focus bug was gone. I haven't noticed any new bugs or any major improvements that matter to me, although others might love new features. There was a problem with the on screen keyboard not showing up in IOS 17, but I figured out the work around, so that's no problem now.

as a beta tester, it's my job to report bugs found, and workout how to reproduce them for reports. this ridiculousness on not upgrading as soon as an update releases is down right crazy. If you're on anything beside iOS 17.3.1, and not a beta tester, you are doing a huge disservice to testers. security patches, and new features, some of which can be enhansing your use case, are essential. I will never understand those who ask time and time again, if surtain bugs are fixt before upgrade(s) sure, those who record and produce music, need stability, but even they have to eventually update. this attitude of some of the blind who are scaired to update, and need constint reassurance is unfounded.

Why people don't upgrade is beyond me. No software is bug free. If you are that paranoid then don't have a phone, watch, iPad, or computer. Get a old flip phone and be done. If you have a modern smart phone you should upgrade everytime a new version comes out just for the security fixes alone.

Unlike the majority of people above, I will not give you a hard time on whether or not you should upgrade. I (will) tell you that one really frustrating bug that was ever present in iOS 16 has apparently been resolved in the latest public release of iOS 17.

In 16 there is an issue with the SE model iPhones that when you unplug your device from a charging or data cable, the iPhone will sometimes not have sound, because the device (thinks) you have a wired earbud still plugged in.

While there are work arounds for this in iOS 16, in iOS 17 it seems to have been resolved.

So, consider this, and some of the other threads on here regarding iOS 17, and make an informed choice.

HTH. 😀

Last time I heard we have choices. Do as you feel contable with it. I do update ASAP. This is me and works for me. The peanut gallery just blowing hot air. Is your phone and you will be dealing with it. If you are OK with current iOS and feel safe with it. Go for it. She who should not be name agree with me.

Dear Holger thank you very much for your reply. Dear Siobhan thank you for your reply. I understand your point, however since Apple does not allow downgrading if more people are unhappy with Ios17 than Ios16, that says something. As the phone is my main device for emails and web browsing it is important not to have issues in those areas. On the other hand Braille issues do not impact me. Furthermore I got burned with Ios13 so did not want to make the same mistake again. Of course everybody's use case is different but you can get a consensus about Ios versions. Even Apple sometimes focuses on squashing bugs instead of new features. So for me knowing the experience of other users is important. I have seen many threads about Ios17 having problems on the other hand these threads might have been from people who were the minority. So gauging how if Ios17 is less stable than Ios16 and more bug prone is important. Of course your mileage may vary. Dear Bruce thank you for your reply. Dear Daniel, thanks for your reply. The answer above to Siobhan applies for you too. Dear Dennis, thank you for your reply. The answer above to Siobhan applies for you too. Dear Brian, thank you very much for your reply. Very helpful.

Well according to apple people do not like iOS 17. Last year over 80% use iOS 16 and today close to 70% use iOS 17. Looks like even sighted people do not care for it.

You guessed it, it has iOS 17 something-or-other on it. The latest build. My father and I went to an AT&T store in the area yesterday, and the representative not only did the data transfer right in front of us but he also installed the latest software. I haven't had much experience with it thus far, but it seems pretty stable to me. I'm just figuring things out, but so far so good. But yeah, it is business as usual indeed here in the forums. Sometimes ya just gotta give these companies a chance to prove themselves.

I have iOS 17. In terms of bugs, I've noticed a few quirks here and there, but nothing too major. Overall, the system feels smoother, and I haven't experienced any significant issues that would make me regret the upgrade. That said, everyone's experience can vary, so it might be worth weighing the pros and cons based on your specific needs and concerns. But when I attempted to update, I encountered error 1671, which was a real headache. I hadn't heard much about it from others, so I was a bit lost on what to do. After trying different methods, I found a solution that worked for me: putting my device into DFU mode (Device Firmware Update). It did the trick and allowed me to successfully complete the update. If others have this problem, this guide on iOS error 1671 shows how to do that.

The only issue is with siri. When I send message or voice message she stops and have problem reading the text or does not say send? I have to say to her send and she does. Will see what happen in iOS 18. Bugs and AI. That is going to be interesting.

That is a personal choice. Whatever works for a person.
