i'll post the site here. i have an iPhone 13 pro max so i can't get this. however i was just wondering if anybody else has this and if so what it's like? https://www.clicks.tech/
So I have not looked at one, but I know a little bit about what they look like. The site description doesn't seem very thorough so I asked my social network to describe it.
The keyboard is built into a case which plugs into the lightning / USB port of your iPhone. The keyboard then extends the phone from the bottom. When you type on the keyboard, the phone will be in portrait orientation.
Personally I feel like this would make the phone very unwieldy , and I would be much happier to use a case that flipped open from the side. I'm willing to be proven wrong, I'm just not willing to spend the money until I actually get to try one.
i did wonder if it was gona be portrait or landscape i must admit. thing is i love my iPhone i wouldn't go back but if i'm being really honest i do cope better with physical keyboards for typing. although i doubt very much that it would work with my 13 pro max. there's nothing to suggest that it does or doesn't.
Since Clicks was debuted at CES, i've fostered a lot of curiosity about it. I use Braille Screen Input exclusively, but there are times where it issues audio recordings instead of typing, and needs to be recalibrated often. I have used physical keyboards, (portable Bluetooth ones, and a keyboard case in the past), that greatly enhanced my productivity. the case I used worked as Simon described- it attached to the phone, and slid out from the side, using a landscape orientation. Having the knowledge that the Clicks case extends portrait mode would make the phone cumbersome to use. I don't have a supported model to even entertain the idea of purchasing Clicks, but wanted to offer my thoughts/appreciation that this topic came up. This is something it seems a lot of folks would benefit from, and we should give feedback to the company to further support them, and help them continue this product growth into the future.
While it seems like an interesting idea, I can’t spend that kind of money on it when BSI works so well for me. Plus, it does seem like landscape would make much more sense. Would love to test one out, just for fun, but at least in this first configuration, can’t see myself getting one. If I’m going to get something that would add that much bulk to the phone, it would be a battery case.
This is only available for newer phones. Mainly the iPhone 14 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro as well as the iPhone 15 Pro Max they’re not actually released yet. I think one is releasing this month and the others are releasing in March. There is no MagSafe so if you are used to charging magnetically, you have to take it out of the case. This is more of a let’s see if people are interested kind of product. Whatever it’s going to be, second or third generation is going to be better. However, by that point, we’re going to have much better microphones, and AI will be fully part of dictation and Siri.
I ordered one. it's not coming until the end of march. I look forward to trying it though, i've just never been able to get BSI working even though i'm a proficient braille user so I think this could be a really good solution for me.
