i am struggling with the mac mail app that when i VO + J into the message, it goes straight to the text of the message. usually, this is completely fine, but sometimes i want to copy the persons email and when i VO + Shift + Left arrow to un-interact with the text, it doesn't work. i end up just going to the bottom of the message, rather than back through the subject etc like i want to do. is this just a bug or am i doing something wrong?
Kind Regards

I never used VO J because I just didn't like it's behavior. So I use enter , return, to open a message. Now if the person's email is say in their signature line, you can go to it, and using command, shift and a right arrow, go letter by letter. Annoying, but it will make sure you get the entire thing. You then want to press command C to copy the selected text. After that, open a new message presing command V to pase it. Now if you have the person who's just sent you an email, here's another way. Again, it's complex but it work. Forward the message, with command shift F. Then tab into the edit field. now go down with the arrows until you hear the from: and the email address. Again, copy it with the command shift right arrow as you hear the items say selected. when you hear that, you can just command C to copy text. Now, close the forwarded message, open a new one and command V. Hope that makes some sense. I'd be happy to contact you off here to do it with you if you need someone to talk you through how to do this. Hope my instructions were clear.

Another way to copy an email address in the Mail app is to interact with the message header to the left of the body, click the sender's name, and choose "Copy address" from the resulting menu.

I'm not sure why, but when i get to the button within the message header for example "AppleVis" no option menu to copy it comes up and there is no way to copy the address. is this a bug or something i'm doing wrong?

In my experience, the header is a bit complicated.

I have Mail configured to open messages in a separate window, but I don't believe this is the default. Once you open a message, VO+Left to the header, but it might not be the first thing you find. You want VO to announce "Message Header". Interact with that. There are multiple elements. The first (furthest left) is often the sender's initials, but sometimes that is not present. The next element (to the right of the initials, or the first element if the initials aren't present) is a group with the sender, subject, and to fields. Note that VO doesn't announce the words from, subject, or to, it simply reads their contents. Interact with this group. Navigate to the sender and interact with it. Next, bring up the context menu. I have this tied to NumPad Plus, but I think the VO default is VO+Shift+M. Arrow down to the copy option and select it.

So, like I said, it's a bit complicated. But if you do this enough times, it becomes muscle memory.

Use VO-Shift-Left and VO-Shift-Right to precisely select the embedded email address object in the header, then press VO-space. It works--I just used it. You'll have a copy address option there, and better yet, the email address itself appears in the menu, so you can confirm that you have the right one.

Good luck!

hi everyone, sorry for the delay in getting back to you all. Firstly, I really appreciate the help you've all offered.
- Sebby: I have tried interacting using VO shift but it doesn't seem to work for me, and when i press on the sender it doesn't bring up any menu at all
- PaulMarks: i have mine set like this too, but when i try to open the menu it just either doesn't do anything or makes an unhappy noise.

Generally, it seems like it should work but there is something that i'm doing wrong to make it not work, but i'm not sure what it is because i've tried so many times and different ways and nothing seems to fix it. I'm really sorry but i am very grateful for all of your help
