I just have to take a minute to talk about how grateful I am that all Apple products work together so seamlessly.
This morning, I started my day on a meeting. I was listening through my airpod on my iPhone. My ride pulled up, and when I climbed in I realized I had lost audio. Shoot, the phone is inside! I ran back inside the house and realized I couldn't call the phone to find it, as my airpod was in. Realizing I would be late if I looked any longer, I ran out the door without my phone. I must admit, it was, still is, stressful. I'm not home with my phone just yet but...
I got to the office, and when I calmed down from being upset about being without my phone for the day, I realized, hey, this iPad will do, well, most everything that's important anyway. The first thing I did was check work email. Then, I went to find my to make sure that yes indeed, my phone is safely in my house. I'll call it when I get home or ping it from my watch. Speaking of watch, about that time it went off with a text, right along with my iPad. Thankfully, with all of these devices being interconnected, I was able to keep in touch with people, including but not limited to coworkers, but most importantly my ride to get back home, where I will find my at the moment missing iPhone.
This day could have been a lot more stressful. Had I not had other apple devices on my same Apple ID, I would've been in a world of hurt. My ride wouldn't be able to text to say she's coming to get me. The email could have been answered, but it wouldn't have been half as convenient having to cart my laptop around everywhere. All is well that will end well, I'm headed home soon, but I'm just glad Apple's connected devices made what could've been a complicated and disconnected day not have to be half as bad as I initially thought it might be when I left the phone behind.

Vacation
Maybe the iPhone wanted a brake from work and went on strike. Baby the iPhone and give it prasings and it might go back with you to work.
Use the alarm
I personally think Apple should be interoperable with other providers and just just other Apple products, but glad things worked out foryou.
If this happens again, I have a hack for you. Using your Airpod, ask Siri to set an alarm for one minute from now. Take out your airpod from your ear. You should hear the alarm going off, the alarm bypasses any plugged in devices or the phone being muted, etc.
Can't Agree More
I totally agree. While I've probably not done as much of this as a lot of you, it's so nice to have these devices talk to one another. I'm finding that out too with my HumanWare eReader, when used as a Braille display with VoiceOver. I'm still learning how to use it, but so far so good.

LOL, to the person who suggested my phone needed a vacation, it did take a nice nap on my couch. That is in fact where I found it when I got home. Clearly, I searched too quickly and missed it.
To the person who suggested the alarm, great idea, except I was on a meeting and couldn't use Siri at the same time. I was most definitely out of luck.
Today, the phone is here on my desk at my office beside me. I'm happy to have it back in my work routine.
For future reference
If you misplace your iPhone in the future, power down the AirPods and then call out to Siri with the phrase, "Hey Siri, Where are you?"
Siri will respond with something like, "Here I am!".
Trust me, I have to do this often as I have an iPhone SE2 which is a very slim iPhone that enjoys evening walks in the park, sunsets, and jumping out of my pocket at the most inconvenient times.

Wouldn't putting airpods back in case disconnect them from phone
As the title says, in all that situation, you wouldn't be paying attention to the meeting either way, so temprorily putting back airpods in it's case, and calling out to Siri would have also solved the problem, wouldn't it?
I don't care if I have alternate device to get me through my day, I am never leaving my house without my phone. Hell these days I am carrying 2 phones, 1 for work, and 1 for other things, like making payments etc.
Leaving my phone is like compromising on my safety. Hell, I wouldn't be able to make payment to my cab without my phone as I rarely carry any cash on me. And my cards are at the back of phone, in it's wallet case.
