Finder not responding in Sonoma

Hello everyone,
Another big bug I have seen on multiple computers on Sonoma besides the big one (SNR) is that the finder is unresponsive for minutes at a time after restarting a Mac running Sonoma. finders sometimes needs a force quit and then it might start working correctly. That’s why I downgraded my M1 to an older version.
Do you know if this issue is still happening with Mac OS 14.2 or 14.3?
Depending on the processor, it may happen for anywhere from 2 to 5 minutes, sometimes longer. The bug is where you can’t navigate finder, and all Vio does is say finder not responding. You sometimes can go to the dock or menu bar, but not other times. It’s a really serious bug. when my Mac was on Sonoma, I was sometimes unable to do anything on my Mac for 5 to 10 minutes at a time. I’ve not heard anybody talk about this bug. That’s why I’m wondering if it’s been resolved. I’ve seen it as far back as 14.0 and 14.0.1. The bug started happening more in 14.1.
I would like to know if this bug is resolved.

So now we have SNR and FNR, and Apple itself is not responding (that is ANR). Yes my friend, the bug is still there. And if you do not know, just check how much battery is wasted when this happens, which means when the bug is happening there is somethign very demanding happening that is eating up the battery.

It’s true though. I feel like they’re not listening to anything we say. And what is eating the battery when that happens? I never even looked at the battery when it was doing that.

Subject says it all. I feel like Monterey is more reliable than Ventura.
Also if you’re an Apple Silicon Mac user, the Siri voices are powered by an actual neural network, not the fake sounding one they use in Sonoma.
It’s the best of both worlds! A stable OS with some really natural sounding Siri voices to boot.

I said this in another post, but I have found 13.6.x the most stable for my needs, but that is also considering I am on an old MBP that requires OCLP to run anything beyond macOS 12. In my experience though, Big Sur ran better than Monterey, and again Ventura ran better than both.

Once more, this is just in my own experience with my old as dirt MBP.

Someday I will give up the ghost and get myself an Apple Silicon Mac, but for now I keep this old thing because I "lurve" Bootcamp + Windows 10.

I'm not experiencing this bug on my M2 Macbook Air running Sonoma. Do you find that it occurs predictably under certain conditions, or does it seem to be intermittent and random?

It only occurs once you restart your Mac, or click the shutdown button.

I am also not having this issue. My Mac was recently set up as new, so maybe that is the issue?

Just thought I would share some of the things I did when I was experiencing this issue.
For me this issue only happens after restarting the Mac.
For me, sometimes force quitting Finder a few times fixed the issue. Sometimes it didn’t. I will say that opening the force quit panel does allow you to access the dock by hitting control option d, so you can get to other apps besides binder. maybe you can get something done at least..
If it’s still not responding, try restarting again. You might end up in the same place as before, but it’s worth a shot.
If all else fails, make a time machine back up, then downgrade from Sonoma and then restore from your time machine back up.

Thank you Oliver, I got a kick out of this! You made my day! To be fair, Apple has never, and will never respond adequately until an executive and/or his or her relatives must use these features! Vote with your wallet, and stop putting up with this insanity!

I have this happen when I restart on my 2018 macbook air, but for seconds, maybe up to 30 at a time, but certainly nnot minutes. Nowhere near that bad. It is more of a minor annoyance than a major pproblem in my case. But Safari is still behaving nicely for me.
