in settings > accessibility >voiceover >commands, there is a custom command called "item text search". this is actually same as the vo-f command on the mac. it would be nice if it actually works.
i set it up with a custom gesture. but when i perform the gesture, vo just says "enter search text", and there is no edit box or any place i can enter the desire text.
if anyone ever got this to work, i'd like to know how you do it.

A couple of things you might try
From your description, it seems like the custom gesture is recognized (since VoiceOver prompts you to "enter search text"), but the issue is with the lack of an edit box to actually input your search text. This could potentially be a glitch or an interface issue.
A couple of things you might try: First, ensure your iOS is up-to-date, as this might be a bug that has been fixed in a more recent update. If that doesn't work, try resetting your VoiceOver settings to default and then reassign the custom gesture to see if that helps.
when you have time can you try it?
this custom command has been around forquite a while. i tried it before, it didn't work then. since finding text string in a large file or article is very useful for me, so i tried it again earlier today with the same problem.
Keyboard
The problem is that it works entirely like the Mac Find command, that is it only works with a keyboard. If you have a keyboard or braille display of any kind attached the command works. I use it all the time. I think they should add the ability to enter find strings with the on-screen keyboard. Maybe we should all ask.
If nothing else it should be usable with braille screen entry.
The item find activated by a 2 finger triple tap never does anything useful so I think they should reassign that gesture to a working find command.
Of course, if they did that I'd have to reenable the default which I have assigned to something else.
good news for CuriousNetEntity

you are right, the item find or item chooser was totally useless, but looks like it's useful now. i use it to find text string in webpage and call history, it did find what was looking for. i'm still on ios 16 because i always wait till the second tuesday of march to upgrade; but if it works for ios16, it should work with the latest ios also.
