There are a couple of bugs fixed in WatchOS 10.2 RC:

  • There is now a setting to control whether one can swipe for watch face change (2-finger swipe in VoiceOver users' case) within settings>clock.

  • VoiceOver once again speaks the "today's date" complication properly.

And has been since iOS 17.2 Beta 1 when I started notifying Apple about this. In iOS 17.0 and 17.1, one could use VoiceOver to solve the crossword puzzles in News Plus. You had to know where you were, as that has never worked. I’ll explain this below.

Let’s say you have a four letter word. VoiceOver counts five spaces instead of four because the first one would let you enter in all the letters. If you have letters from a down clue for example, you simply type in the missing letters and the one already there would be skipped over. If you wanted to correct a letter, you could flick to the letter you want to change and backspace it out or simply replace it.

In iOS 17.2, that is no longer the case. The four letter word that had five spaces becomes one flick and you move on to the next clue, not the next position of the clue as you did in iOS 17.1.

I'm on an iPhone 12 and I can confirm Ming's issue. I use Australian Siri, and time and time again, it reverts to Karen Compact. I've had friends say when using Alex, it will occasionally revert back to Samantha. And it usually erases the voices so you have to redownload it. It's quite tedious.

First off, I was having the siri issue until I changed Siri so that it spoke in the same voice as my Voiceover default language. That seemed to solve the problem. If you want Voiceover to speak with a different voice it's just a question of setting up a secondary language on your rota, which can be the same as your default language, I believe. So I have English UK default and English UK, each speaking with a different voice.

On a completely unconnected topic, I do hope Watch OS 10.2 has sorted out the battery drain that some of us using the watch, in particular the Ultra apparently, have been experiencing. This isn't an accessibility issue - it's been all over Mac Rumours and elsewhere. Interestingly enough, reading the comments from the sighted people struggling with this there are lots of similarities with this forum - lots of 'not an issue for me' etc. It seems that this is a random problem a bit like many of ours are.
