Otterbox Defender for iPhone 5

Hi, I recently got the Otterbox Defender case for an iPhone 5 device. I was able to snap the hard plastic shell around the device without any hitches, but removing it seems to be an issue. I can remove the hard rubber part just fine, but can't figure out how to remove the plastic protector without potentially cracking it. Any pointers in the right direction would be nice. Thanks

Hello. I'm curious byt why would you want to remove the phone? Unless you needed to fix something, my understanding of those is it's packed in so tight so you don't need to remove it. Just asking since i have a belt clip case, but I'm cosnidering a new one because the clip where the phone slides in is fine, but a bit weak. The clip holding it on to my clothes and things is great, but my father who also bought the same broke his. Don't ask how :P Anyway that's my question.

I don't necessarily need to remove it now, it's just nice to know in case I decide to get a new case in the future, or want to just take it off for maintenance.

It isn't easy but can be done. I'm assuming you've already removed the outer silicon sleeve. Next, with the screen of your iPhone facing toward you, you'll feel three rectangular bumps, one on either side and one on the top. These are the clips or catches that hold the plastic shell together. I've found it easiest to tackle the top one first. Gently get a thumb or finger nail to the back of the rectangular bump and lift slightly. the case should separate a little at the top. Now do the same for the two side catches and the shell should now be in two pieces and the iPhone readily accessible. The key is to use the right balance of strength vs gentleness. Err on the side of the latter and you shouldn't do any lasting damage. Hope this helps. Andrew
