Hello,
I guess, on the news--which was on News Max--they're telling iOS 17.1 users to do this immediately. I guess you should turn off the "Name Drop" feature of "Air Drop", and the people list how to. Go into settings, and go into general. Go into Air Drop and I guess turn off "Bring iPhones Together." If this is not turned off, I guess anyone who has an iPhone nearby can get anything they want on you like your name, contacts, and the like. Is this true or just bull hokey? As it came from News Max TV, though, I'm saying it's legitimate.

over blown
First you get an alert second your phones have to be practically touching each other for this to work.
Gullible, Gullioble People
Yet another silly viral hoax making the rounds on Facebook, and I guess news outlets too. Please go to

Consider the Source
I’m not surprised a story like this was shown on News Max, because right wing media is notorious for publishing sensationalist news with a minimum of fact checking. I suggest The Newsworthy podcast instead, because it’s short, factual, and references multiple sources.
From what I can tell,…
From what I can tell, warnings about this feature being a security risk are largely misleading, as in addition to requiring devices to be almost touching, sharing of contact information requires your explicit approval. This Washington Post article outlines some of the warnings that have recently been disseminated by police departments and media outlets, and explains how the information presented in them paints an incomplete picture of how this feature works, making it sound more dangerous than it actually is.
misleading
Subject says it all; this is quite misleading. Seriously, don't, freeking, trust, the, goddamn news... In 90% of cases they only do one thing; overblow and exaggerate things because... Fear sells... Old story but yeah, this thing is overblown but then again... Tipical mainstream media. I mean, it’s not even dangerous; you have to confirm if you want to share your info first and foremost. Exactly how is conferming dangerous? If you don't want to share your contact info... just tap no, and that's it. Seriously some news sources just... Jesus christ.
Wrong
Those news are misleading. Really, people should make a complete research before they make news.
No
No way Jose. Is wrong. What else can be said that it has not done so.
is it the same person?
they probably did it on ag.net, now on here??
that's just annoying.
I understand why the original poster posted it
First I have no idea how much in the last week I've seen people post warnings from several police departments. Very few have corrected their posts to explain. Yes you have to be aware of things that could give your info away but Apple is really good about privacy and security.

Stop spreading misinformation.
Don't believe journalists
Unfortunately when it comes to understanding technology Most journalists don't do the research required to really understand technology. That just get a wild hair and run with a story for the views and advertiser revenue. Go back into the Apple archive way past the worms... and listen to the name drop feature. Listen to how Apple talks about how the feature works. Whata the journalists and ultimately news media won't tell you is this. The amount of money they are getting paid to spread lies and misinformation about technology they know nothing about. That if properly researched in the first place articles like this craap wouldn't come out. Therefore, people won't be scared of technology but rather embrace and live iwth it.
By no means am I saying technology is perfect, far from me I might add. Just look at Apple's traile of worms and uneaten fruit. That's a mess I'm glad I don't have to clean up.. anyways, before you believe something. It's best to walk away, have a winnie the pooh think, and do your own research into features.
don't blame the right wing
Someone in this thread blamed this misinformation on the right wing. Let's be fair by also looking at what the left wing media has been spewing since 2016. Example? Russia, Russia, Russia. I could name others, but it isn't necessary.
I don't worry half of what's posted anywhere, including here
One sentence sums up all media outlets, left, right, who cares what they are. If it bleeds, it leads. How often to you see "two people killed in a wrong way crash on..." Yep. Case closed. I didn't turn off name drop and if someone's so freaked about anything like that? lock yourself in your house or something. Lol. Seriously, It's just the scare tactic, well done, I guess it worked?
Mis information. Nothing…
Mis information. Nothing left to see. Stop and do your own research people! How many times do we need to stress this!
It's just your average media…
It's just your average media trying to screw with the truth. The thing about media is you have to look deeper to really grasp what is going on. Media only provides people with what they want to hear and not factual proof. This has been demonstrated countless times.
