I used to think the old days when VoiceOver would crash and restart quite often were finally over, but the issue is back. I've been having the very same issue ever since I updated to either one of iOS 17.1 or iOS 17.1.1, and the latter sounds more likely to me.

Same
Same. I'm starting to get sick from all things Apple tbh. The amount of bugs that go unfixed on their various devices, despite the fact that they're a trillion dollar factory is just sad.
Not a New bug.
The days of voiceover crashing and restarting never really did go away. the problem comes and goes, and it's been that way since fourteen or so months ago, when iOS 16 first came out. I spent months trying to get apple Accessibility to acknowledge that it was even a problem, and the only reason I'm not still calling them is that no matter how many screen recordings and so forth I sent them, they still claim that they have no way of knowing what's causing the issue, which makes no sense to me. after all, they're the ones who made the changes causing the issue in the first place. And then when you bring that up, they start passing the buck and claiming that no one knows that''''' the root cause is. In fact, the very first time I called about the issue, they refused to even open a ticket, as according to the the rep I got, it wasn't a bug, but operator error or the phone's fault. and trust me, the guy who did that got himself nicely reported
afterwards. And things kept going that way until February of this year, when I finally stopped calling them about the problem. And even now, voiceover crashes and restarts randomly on my phone, and this is the second device it's done this on. So don't hold your breath waiting for Apple to fix the issue, as they'll probably get around to it about the day after never.
Better
I experienced the restart bug very often on iOS 16.x.
I still do see VO crash/restart on iOS 17.1 but less frequent.
It's indeed annoying and also the fact that SIRI voices gets auto-deleted is also darn annoying to say the least.
Hopefully Apple will squash all these bugs/glitches because going back to Android is not an option.
Android is not perfect either and I used Android for many years but got very fed up with all the bugs on there as well grinning face.
It was gone for me for a while.
I didn't have this problem for a while, thus such a statement.
No
Lucky me. iOS 17.1.1. Feel for all. Using 13 pro.
It is really annoying
It's been happening for me since 16 . I am thinking it might be due to my poor battery health (82 % currently) and I was contemplating replacing the battery. Do you folks have unhealthy battery too? Just wondering. I have the Apple 2018 SE iPhone. I have been thinking of changing my iPhone too for this VO issue. What do you think

Never had this issue
Owned an iPhone now for over 10 years and have never seen this.
Could it have something to do with the VoiceOver voice that is being used? I use, and still like, the original Samantha voice. It's fast and responsive, and does everything I need it to do.
I mostly use the iPhone for occasional texting, two factor authentication, phone calls of course, and the occasional eMail. I do most of my computing on windows with NVDA.
Doubt that.
It happens with Vocalizer voices and third-party voices alike.
RE: Never had this issue
Yep, it happens to me with Samantha.
