Apple Beta Releases

Hi all
I’ve been having trouble on and off since upgrading to iOS 17 with VoiceOver randomly losing my preferred voice settings. I’ll be in the middle of a task and suddenly the voice will just change for no apparent reason. It then defaults to the UK Daniel voice. I personally can’t stand that voice so my system completely dropping my preferred voice - thus forcing me to go in to speech settings and re-download the UK Siri voice I prefer. It used to happen firly infrequently, but just lately it’s happening nearly every day.

Is this happening to anyone else? Does it have anything to do with how full my phone’s storage is? I seem to remember having to offload some apps when I updated a while ago. Do you get a response if you email the accessibility email address? I
really can’t face that feedback assistant! Thanks for any info / advice you can share.

Hello,

I frequently lose both Siri UK Siri voices 3 and 4. ~Like you my speech switches back to Danial. This can happen over night when the device is on charge and occurrs every two days or so. Storage is not an issue for me on my iPhone 15 Pro Max 250 GB model. None of the other Siri voices and dialects are lost from my Rotor but I regularly have to redownload UK voices 3 and 4.

While it's annoying to have this issue, I'm glad it's not just my device. It's good to know its not storage related either.

Yes this is jappening to me as wwell.
Especially with my toter languages.
When I put my phone on charge it seems to delete the serri voices in the roter languages.

The only voice that doesn't get deleted is Eloquence. I woke up to find Daniel and Samantha hanging out on my phone rather than the UK Siri Voice 1 and American voice 4. such a total pain!! Thanks for letting me know it's not just my issue.

Thank you for sharing your feedback number. To be honest I didn't know what it was until you clarified it here. I'll have a look in the feedback assistant and see if I can share mine also in case it can help someone. My phone did it again this morning, though thankfully this time only one voice was affected. Still though it's rather annoying. Do they ever get back to things you raise in the Feedback app?
Thanks again

yes, they do get back to you. it is a very troublesome bug. Alex seems to be the only voice not effected. when a new build is released, there is a section called requests. if they need to know if bugs are resolved, that's their point of contact. to share your Feedback number, first submit a bug report. then, there is an action button which opens and one of the options is copy Feedback ID.

For me what this issue seems to be is this:
The Siri voices will delete themselves completely randomly, however, vocalizer voices and voices like Alex, Agnes, Victoria, etc. will not delete themselves. At least for me, it isn't one particular Siri voice or dialect, it's every single one.
I have activities set up for 99% of all the voices, including all of the Siri voices and vocalizer voices. This is what I use instead of the language roter, because it allows me to have all of the voices for all english dialects.
For me, if one Siri voice deletes, they all go down, and they require redownloading.
This issue also affects macOS 14 as well, and it's one of the reasons I downgraded my m1 MacBook Pro to macOS 12, because the accessibility has been better than Ventura or Sonoma for me. I do not get the "safari not responding" bug at all. MacOS 12 is really stable.
I have reported this apple, and they said this issue has been fixed. That was around iOS 17.0 beta 4 or 5, public beta 2 or 3.
Obviously it hasn't, because we are experiencing it in iOS 17.2 beta3.
Apple on July 18 said this, "As a result of your feedback, there are software changes in the latest update, build 21A5277j, that have resolved this issue. You can see the software build your device is running and check for the latest update by tapping on Settings > General > Software Update."
I told them this was still not resolved, and they have done nothing about it.
I reported this on June 14th.
