My phone just updated to 17.1.1 and my voice is reset to Samantha. So I went into settings/accessibility/voiceover/voice to just reset it to Eloquence, and I don't see it there at all. Is it gone? Or do you set it somewhere else?
If you haven't done so already, I would recommend restarting your phone and checking again, as I've found a few times in recent releases that not all of the available voices are listed after updating iOS. A restart has always resolved this for me.
Besides, the version from freedom scientific is slitely different. I for one am really happy elequense made it to apple devices. But for it just staying with freedom scientific... That would be boaring, not to mention expensive as hell... no thanks.
Eloquence has largely remained exclusive to a few things for over a decade and it's nice to see it coming to more operating systems.
Why ever should this choice be a downside? Why in the world should it go back to being a monopoly - even if it largely remains as one today despite being open to more devices?
NVDA's eloquence add on is still an absurd amount of money and has nothing but problems. Since code factory removed it from Android and abandoned it, they will never get more money from me. Scummy company who overcharged and underdelivered.

NVDA's eloquence is not a lot of money if you know where to go.
there's even a github version: https://github.com/pumper42nickel/eloquence_threshold
It's so old and should be free. I hope it improves on IOS, if it does, I'll probably use it.
