Hello colleagues.

Did anyone notice that, since iOS 16, VoiceOver resumes focus for the first item on the screen when we use the media playback control buttons in certain applications? As stated in the subject, this is especially Visible in video applications.

A quick and accurate way to reproduce the problem is to open the official YouTube application, start playing any video and tap the Play/Pause button, located at the top center of the screen. It is possible to notice that, when we resume video playback, the focus of VoiceOver is always placed on the first item on the screen, in this case called the video player. Another example that is possible to use as a demonstrative, although it does not occur every time This behavior, is to use the Pluto TV application. We open the application, start full-screen playback and use the channel forward or backward buttons. In some cases, Voiceover will return to the first item on the screen when the channel is changed, in this case, a button to Show/hide the video controls.

It is worth remembering that this problem does not exist in iOS 15, with the same applications updated to the same versions, which proves to be a VoiceOver problem from iOS 16.

I have already reported this problem to Apple, I would like to know if anyone else had this impression.

Big hug!

Greetings. Have you upgraded to IOS 17? When I upgraded, the problem I was having with focus jumping to the top went away.

So, friend, I believe that the focus bug referred to by you is not the same as the one we have here. This one in particular only happens in media playback applications, in addition to the fact that the focus always goes to the same place, different from the old bug

If you don't identify which operating system you are using, you make it more difficult for people to answer your questions.

Sorry, to you and all the other readers. I'm on the latest version of the system, iOS 17.1.1

I believe the behaviours you're describing are a result of the developers programmatically refocusing the VO cursor on specific controls for some unknown reason. For instance, when I collapse (minimise) a video on the native YouTube app, the VO cursor is focused on the now collapsed player controls, located at the lower right corner of the screen.
