Checkie for Foursquare

Description of App

Checkie is a Foursquare client built for speed. Simply launch the app and swipe to check in. Check-ins will even complete in the background.

That's it, lightning fast with a clean, simple interface.

Accessibility Comments

It just works. Either flick left/right to reach each new entry or just slide your finger down to get to what you want. Then double tap after selecting a place to check into.

VoiceOver Performance

VoiceOver reads all page elements.

Button Labeling

All buttons are clearly labeled.

Usability

The app is fully accessible with VoiceOver and is easy to navigate and use.

Other Comments

The app is not full of bells and whistles, but if you want something to quickly check into Foursquare places, then this app is it. After each check in you will see your points earned for that check in, but you will not see the breakdown of the points. This isn't meant to be a Foursquare replacement, and it won't show you all the neat things that Foursquare does. However it's not meant for that. If you want menus, address info, comments, ETC, then use the regular Foursquare app. If you want a quick way to check in without digging through menus or things, then this app is for you. I use it along side the regular Foursquare app with no issues. It also supports Twitter and Facebook toggles to show your checkins.

I notice though the auto post to twitter and facebook thing does not work, or at least I don't think it does. I checked in today and the post showed up on 4sq ut never posted to twitter that I was doing anything. This could be because 4sq and checkie did not yet implement the new twitter api I don't know. but does anyone else have this issue? If this is a 4sq issue maybe i'll contact them instead. Nice little app though.

I should have corrected myself. I can't check or uncheck the auto posting thing. It looks like voice over does not read the auto post checked or unchecked status. it's like it is text only. Over all the app works though. just not the reading of that checked status of auto posting to twitter and fb. here is a short short audio boo explaning this.

Hello to all. Does anyone notice that when you launch check it only shows the first 30 places? I tried searching for the place I knew I was att and it never found it. Second it only showed the first 30 places and not the place I was at even though it was in the vicinity. Thirdly, the thing never refreshed when I travled to a new location in my city. Can aomeone plz help me solve this and give some advice as to what to do? So far the app works good, when I'm not moving. lol!
Hello Mary, Well, unfortunetly I have not been able to successfully found a way to manually refresh your list. The app will need to be killed or removed from you app switcher to update it again. However, I do have an advice you could try. So any point to check in. As you know double tapping on the location will check you in automatically. Well, you may not know this but if you double tap and hold. It should then give you a new page. At this page you can then select to pass your check in by Facebook and Twitter. When done just use the Back button at the top left hand corner. HTH

Oh wow. I did not know about the double tap and hold. Unfortunitally killin gthe app and restarting it never worked for me. Any advice?
Mary, Unfortunetly, I don't have any other suggestion at this time. Oddly, as I have used this morning. It does indeed refresh the list for me regardless of the location I am at. So at this point I would recommend in contacting the developer on this matter. Plus, of course re-installing it and reboot the phone to ensure it isn't some weird glitch. If any one has any suggestion or know of a way to help Mary. Please feel free to leave a Comment here for her.

What's New in Version 2.3 - Swipe to check in! - Refined UI - Fixes crash when using checkie:// URL scheme When you tap or swipe using voiceover, nothing happens. Keep the old version of this app for now if you still have it.
they broke it. And I have already cleaned out my recycle bin.

By Jennifer on Sunday, August 25, 2013 - 18:37

Has anyone contacted the developer yet? It is indeed broken on the latest update. Super bummer!
Got an email from developer about ten minutes ago after I contacted him about the problems. Looks like he's on the ball since it just went live on Twitter.

Ah good, so I'm not the only one seeing it. Even a 3 finger scrool down didn't help and stil does not. Thoughts?

Wonderful! They did a great job on this. Kudos to the developer!

The new gestures are as followed:
- Single finger double tap and hold allows you to copy the URL of the venue
- Single finger double tap will check you in for that venue
- Single finger triple tap to find more details about the venue

Also, to note that with in the Details page. There is a Detail button that will give you more information about the venue including past checkins, phone numbers, menus where it is available, tips and more.

Nice update.

In the settings, i noticed that there are two buttons labeled auto-post to twitter and both of these were turned off. i turned one of them on and went to check in at my house. After doing the tripple tap. it said that both facebook and twitter were turned on for auto posting. Is there some way i can have just twitter turned on for auto-posting my check ins?

closing checkie via the app switcher and reopening it. Now it has refreshed. I won't have a chance to see if it refreshes on its own until I head home from work today.
Hmm. I tried that already ahnd no go. bleh! I'll try again today or tomorow depends on when I leave the house to go to an event. but it never seems to refresh. Stay s at the last location that I used it about 6 or 8 weeks ago.

By KE7ZUM on Sunday, August 25, 2013 - 18:37

Well, I jsut tested it on the way out, it refreshed once, but showed me in the wrong location. Also the place I was at never showed up in the list, Yet when I launched 4sq the place I was at showed up at the top. When I got back home, I relaunched check and the thign never refreshed even after killing it from the app switcher andrelaunching it from my folder. Not sure I"m loving this app anymore. It used to work.
I wonder if it might not be a bad idea to delete the app and re-install it completely? Give that a try and let us know what happens. I haven't had a chance to use Checky yet, but when I do i'll let you guys know what happens.

Not sure in why some are having this issue. I've tried this out several times in the past day with the new version. Each time it has refreshed for me. Though I admit I do kill the app from the app switcher when I am done. Mostly, in fear it will keep draining my battery. I don't know that for a fact but I do this out of habit. However, I do admit it does take a bit to refresh once I have launch it especially out and about beyond the Wi-Fi area. Depending on the connection it has taken up to about 10 seconds to refresh once I've opened up the app. That was the worst case scenario so far. Otherwise it has only been about 3-5 seconds before I get a refresh.

Nope. I quit and relaunched the app and it refreshed once, but never showed my true location. it was off by a few miles quite literally, It never showed the dennys I was at to eat. I know the area well.. I then quit and relaunched the app whenI got home and waited about 2 minutes and it never refreshed. I tried it several times. If I wait a few days it will finally after quitting and relaunchging the app refresh to my home location. 4sq on the other hand takes about 3 to 5 seconds to refresh and it is *always* acurate.
Yep had the same issue here as well. I would try contacting the dev and let them know. I believe the twitter is in the apple vis entry on this app. I can't remember though. Good luck.
Hey, it was a good idea. Sorry it didn't work for y'all, I'd definitely contact the dev on that one then.

Anyone who uses ios7 have you tried checky for 4sq and see if the refresh feature is still broken? It is on my end and the dev says it is an IOS7 issue and they don't knwo why it is not working. I'm just letting you know what they said.If they cannot fix it I wonder if they will try and do a rewrite from the ground up. Thanks to all

What's New in Version 2.4.1

Fixes bug preventing the venue list from refreshing after launch in iOS 7

By KE7ZUM on Friday, October 25, 2013 - 18:37

Acutally the app does not refresh until you kill it from the app switcher and then relaunch. I've had to do this since the public release of ios7 so in a way that refresh bug is not fixed, unless I'm missing something?
