Hi! I find that earbuds tend to fall out of my ears, or at least not sit in them equally so I don't get properly balanced sound: for this reason, I prefer over-ear headphones, even though I sometimes use earbuds for short periods.
You can get a balncing sound app, I have one for the mac. Anwyay now if i can find my airpod who is dead and on the floor somewhere? that'd be awesome.
For music I use my AirPods as I like my music loud and in my ears. However, for audiobooks I prefer the comfort of a good pair of padded overear Bluetooth headphones.
The one thing I like about headphones is they are faster to put on.
I only have the wired, Apple ear buds. Quickly figuring out which is right and left to fit correctly takes a bit longer than the old-style headphones with the band across the top of the head. I guess if I had bluetooth ones, I wouldn't have to untangle the wires.
I like the smaller space the ear buds take up. Another thing is that I have to wear ear muffs for blocking out the noise of machinery and also various layers of face shields and masks part of the day. The ear buds fit inside the ear muffs, which look like the old, old, headphone cans back in the 70s and earlier that completely envelop your ear and part of the side of your head. Sometimes I do that if I'm expecting a call or a notification on my iPhone. Headphones wouldn't work for that at all.
Ya, I usually grab the control and work from there, instead of the actual bud, or I guess they're called pods. Still takes a little longer for me to look for it, then stick them in my ear. Untangling the wires where they separate into two takes the most time, and they seem to instantly get tangled if I roll them up and stick them in my backpack or pocket. . With headphones, I don't have to do much checking at all, but they take up too much room, even the fold-up headphones.
On the stem of the left pod, use a fingernail and gently scrape going from the thin part to the fatter rounded part. You'll feel a slight bump, that's another way. And i'm not surprised your pods get wonky if you roll them up like that. are you a dude? Only asking because it sounds like a guy's way of rolling them up. Lol. seriously though, if you can figure out an easier way, it will not tangle them up as much. Or, you can clip the wires together with that little clip so they are both together. Then just pull them apart, find the volume and done! :)
Mine don't have a bump on the left, no matter how much I feel for it. It doesn't matter, though, I just find the control and go from there. I'll try moving the clip to the end by the pod and clip them together.
To roll them up, I hold the lightning plug with my thumb and index, and wind the wire around four fingers into a coil. I guess maybe like a Skein of sewing thread, or like how bias tape comes, but without the cardboard in the middle. They used to have a cardboard spool that I didn't like. I could just wrap them around a strip of cardboard, i suppose, to keep them together and wound when I rummage around in my backpack.
Earbuds are great when I'm on the go, I can just put one in and do some listening. Headphones are great for things like workouts, I know I'm going to be in one place for a while. The big disadvantage with earbuds is that if your ears differ from each other, you may be able to get a good fit in one, but not the other. I have a set that do that, and it is really frustrating. This is one reason I'll never own expensive earbuds, if they don't fit right you've just tossed away a big chunk of change on something you hate. Another reason I'll never spend a ton of money on earbuds is that they are easily lost.
Winter time it is headphones all the way whether out and about or at home or work. Summer is a bit different. Too hot for headphones. At that time, I will go for IEMs. Sometimes, if I'm out and about with friends while baseball is on, I will use the open ear buds, namely the Open Roc Pros. I absolutely love those things in situations where I need to be able to hear.
Fun fact, some headphones like the Sennheiser HD600 and HD560S, and the Rode NTH100 headphone, have braille on the side of the headband to indicate right and left. Sennheiser has the left cup labeled while Rode labels them both with an "L" and "R".
Headphones for me for sure. It's one of the reasons why I haven't bought the airpods or the airpods pro! I'm afraid they gunna fall right out my small ear holes. Unless I'm wrong, I'd like to have a pair but that just leads me to lose em. Unless they have a thing that goes on top the ears as well to keep from falling out. Never have much luck with the buds but the one accepssion to that is, I ware in-ear monitors sometimes when I'm playing with some bands on stage and that's just a pair of buds but they fit okay.
I used to have a pair of Beats X bluetooth earbuds with a neckband. I use a simple pair of Skull Candy these days, but have the same features.
Basically it is 2 earbuds connected by a thiick, flat cord that rests along the back of your neck. When not in use, the earbuds are magnetic, and the device can be worn like a necklace. Less chance of losing them.
Even before I had to start wearing behind the ear hearing aids, I preferred headphones; I didn't, and still don't, like putting unnecessary things into my ear. If I'm out, sometimes I stream music through the hearing aids, but my Beats Stuio is my go-to for everything if I have them with me.
I'm the opposite of Barbara. For listening to audiobooks, I prefer my second generation airPods. I'm fortunate that they fit my ears perfectly. And they don't block out external sounds. Also, their remote functionality works with 3 of the 4 audiobook players I use. Although they sound pretty darn good for earbuds, there's no way they compare to good headphones for audio quality while listening to music. For listening to music, I like my Bose on-ear bluetooth headphones. But the best experience listening to music by far is with my wired Sony MDRV6 headphones.
It just depends on the situation. Wireless earbuds are super pocketable and convenient and sound a whole lot better than they did even five years ago. Nothing beats headphones for realistic sound though, especially sound stage and imaging. I'm saving up for a decent pair of open back cans I can use at home.
Is the same tech that gaming consoles use for their gaming headsets. Those are wireless, but work in realtime. No lag.
While I don't want to necessarily run around with a huge headset on all day long, if they made an earbud version of that tech for our bluetooth capable devices, I think the world would be a better place.
On a whim, I did a Google search . Apparently, there are bluetooth earrings that can serve as ear buds, stud or clip-on. LOL
That has to be low sound quality. Maybe a forward helix or other cartilage piercing would work better. Although, I've made earrings for people with gauged piercings you could fit a standard bluetooth ear bud into.
Heck, there's even a report that they've invented an actual tooth implant to transmit sound like ear buds. A bluetooth tooth? I wonder how you charge those?

You can tell left from right easily with wired ones
The volume control is on the right can and the left can has a small dot.

Well you could store them differently

Must be an older pair

Each have advantages.

Just my personal preference. 😀

I've tried earbuds but they just don't work for me.
I do like the wired apple design though.

I like headphones as they not get lost the whole time.
What we really need

True story.
An alternative option because I'm weird
On a whim, I did a Google search . Apparently, there are bluetooth earrings that can serve as ear buds, stud or clip-on. LOL

@OldBear
You charge those by licking an electrical outlet. Duh...
Nine volt battery
I love the taste of low-voltage, direct current! Better yet, just chew on aluminum foil!
AirPods Max For Me.
Specially for movies. I think music sounds awesome too.
