VoiceOver Reads notifications in sequence When the device is woken up and the reading setting is set to Speak the number of notifications

Hello, team. I hope and wish you are well.

From iOS 17 Point zero, persisting until the current stable version, 17.1, When We Set VoiceOver to announce a number of Unread notifications while the device is locked in the verbosity session of the VoiceOver settings, Whenever the device wakes up, the number of notifications is pronounced, but soon after the notifications are all read in sequence. This happens every time.

Steps to reproduce the problem:

1) make sure that VoiceOver is enabled;

2) let the notifications accumulate;

3) in settings, accessibility, VoiceOver, verbosity, system notifications, be sure to select the option to speak the numbers in the notification session when blocked;

4) notice that when the device wakes up, either automatically or manually, the number of notifications, as well as their content, will be read in sequence.

The expected behavior was to listen to the time and number of notifications, as was the case until iOS 16, but this no longer occurs. The only alternative solution is to completely turn off the notification announcement when the device is locked.

I hope my explanations were clear. Unfortunately, it is difficult to record this type of problem through a screen recording, precisely because it is interrupted when the device is locked, but I can provide a sound recording if you need it. Thank you for your attention!

Sincerely,

Ricardo Brandão

Hello! In fact, the default behavior has always been for VoiceOver to tell the time and number of unread notifications. What happens now is that, in addition to saying the time and number, he reads the notifications in sequence, he really becomes a talker, laughs! I'll try to give an example:

Let's say you have three unread notifications, the first says Potato, the second says rice and the third, beans. Let's say you turn on your iPhone screen at 1:00 p.m. Until iOS 16, VoiceOver would say something like

— 1:00 p.m., three notifications

Now, he says the following

— 1:00 p.m., three notifications, potatoes, rice, beans

Hi,
I had this issue too, but managed to solve it by setting VoiceOver not to output braille for notifications.
I don't know why this has suddenly became an issue; I literally left this setting untouched in previous iOS versions and never have this issue.

Hi. Voiceover doesn't speak the number of notifications while on the lock screen on my iPhone 12. Go to settings, notifications, display as, and choose "stack or list". :) That should solve the problem.
