VoiceOver bug fixed

Apple Beta Releases

Hi,
I decided to install the latest public beta version. I noticed two things so far.
1. I can once again use my custom ringtones purchased through the iTunes store as text tones. They should be classified as text tones but that is another story. Basically, I can use any custom tone even for other alerts such as voicemail.
2. VoiceOver used to read unclear text to announce that messages were read in the mail app. I can once again determine the status of email in the native mail app in iOS 17.1.

Your Feedback is Important to Improving Accessibility on Apple platforms

Don't assume that Apple is aware of a bug or that your report won't make a difference - submitting bug reports directly to the company helps them reproduce and resolve the issue faster. Your report may provide crucial information. The more reports they receive, the higher the priority they give to fixing the bug.

If you're using a beta version, use the Feedback Assistant on your device to submit feedback and bug reports. If you're using a public release, follow the instructions on this page.

Singer girl. Unfortunately other disabilities aren't be represented nearly enough in any aspect of apple's ecosystem. Not beta testing, or even how many other disabled people are using not just blindness so apple actually gives a S*** because we all know they are better at blowing smoke up your skirt then actually admit they screw up more then help. I of course understand that using a touch screen painful. It just kind of sucks that someone who could really give insight to how Apple should treat their customers is unable too. If you ever decide to beta test, it would be a real eye opener, no pun intended.

The issue with notification still broken. Whenever I get a notification VO reads the time. Nuts. I tell you is making me nuts. Apple probably will not fix it until iOS 18. This is the RC so the public version will be out next week.

I use various Apple accessibility features from Voice Over to Voice Control and Switch Control because cerebral palsy affects my hands, and have started beta testing. If I can be of any help, I'd be happy to.

I totally get it. I think I was just happy to see another user with multiple disabilities around. Reflex I guess, LOL.

Hi,
A new friend recently switched to iOS from a Samsung Galaxy S10.
On her old phone, she had a dog bark as her text alert.
I was hoping that iOS17.1 would allow that again, but it doesn't.
You can still only use native ringtones, such as, "Bark" as your ringtone.
It won't work for any other alert type, such as "text tone."
Has anyone else seen this?
Is it still considered a bug?

If they beta test, this has been fixed. For singer girl, I understand you are cautious. If you really put your head around things, upgrading after awhile you should be ok. I respect you are worried, accept, you do not know if it's safe. However your fear, is what Apple eats and craps two days later. If you can't even on a primary phone, comp etc, say, hey this isn't working, how will they know? I'm not calling you out on not updating, I'm calling your community out on saying F... I got it! Let's go!! Again I respect not anyone can use a primay device, not even muself. i guess I throw caution to the wind and admit defeat and others are to cautious for my taste. Good luck.

I tried the beta on my phone, as it is the only one in use. If some want to beta test with one device, perhaps they could wait for another beta version to be released. Simply my suggestion.

The RC is out and it will be the sane for next week. If you want to install you can. You can have iOS 17.1 earlier.
