I can't stop swimming!

watchOS and Apple Watch Apps

last Thursday at the end of my swimming workout I tried pressing digital crown and side button to pause, so I could exit the swimming pool and end the workout once the watch had decided I could interact reliably with the touchscreen again. Only thing is, it didn't work! I did it loads of ttimes and it didn't work! Please, someone tell me what's changed about this in Watch OS 10 as it's four days later and, well, I'm getting rather tired! Anyway, off to do another length....can't stop, not until I know how.

Bingo, if i had your problem; I'd be a very happy sleepy nearly dead man.

Sorry I don't have a watch, maybe calling up apple accessibility might help? I believe you can call your local shop and ask to be transfered to apples accessibility number.

Usually when you start a swimming work out the watch goes into water lock mode. Just activate the screen then scroll the digital crown up rapidly a few times till you hear the noise. After that, the screen should function as normal and you can end your workout.

You should disable the water lock. It gets automatically turned on with swimming workouts. NOte that the method to disable water lock has changed since WatchOs 9. You need to hold down the digital crown. Your watch will eject the water and the screen should react normally again.

The simultaneous press of side button and digital crown, up to now at least, worked to pause a workout even when water lock was on. are you saying that this is no longer the case since Watch OS 10?

It will pause the workout, but not end it

This is why I started the thread. The simultaneous press of side button and digital crown no longer pauses the workout. Ending the workout subsequently at some convenient moment can still be done, but the handy pause feature does not appear to work anymore. this is the matter about which I am curious. When I did the simultaneous press of crown and side button the other day I didn't feel the haptic that usually indicates: right, got ya, I'm pausing your workout. No, I didn't just miss it because I tried several times and there was nothing on each occasion.

I don’t know if this is whats happening but hopefully not. The ability to pause a workout is available on the Ultra and Ultra 2 by pressing and holding the action and side buttons. I wonder if they’ve pushed this to be a reason to get the sport focussed ultra? Hopefully it’s just a bug but it wouldn’t be the first time features have been denied in order to push an upgrade. Being removed I’m not sure about but worth reporting a bug to apple and see if it comes back.

Well core blimey guvnor I did not know that! I have an Ultra. I must give it a try. As such, I guess the question of whether it was done to push a particular product and thereby make more evil capitalist profit is a non-issue in my case.

Nothing wrong with evil capitalism. All want it if they could be one. Me to. Hope your issue get fix.

And because the thread disappeared yesterday you didn’t even get to see my finely crafted reply in which I disclosed that I, like you believe corporations are the best route to growth in many of the metrics we consider valuable, I just want a little more oversight of the children in the sandpit to make sure the kids are playing well and nobody is ruining the game for everyone else.

Follow these simple steps to avoid this issue in the future.
Note, this will require the following "tools":
• A solid flat surface. A sturdy table, or I suppose the patio around your pool will do.
• A small hammer, preferably a ball peen hammer.

1. Remove watch. This is important!
2. Lay the watch face down on a sturdy surface.
3. Gently tap the back of the watch with a hammer.
4. Casually increase the strength of the taps until you hear a "chime" sound. It may sound similar to breaking glass.
5. Flip the watch over, face up.
6. Gently tap the screen with the hammer 4 or 5 times. Wait a second, then smash the hammer down onto the screen. The goal here is to hit as close to center of the screen as possible.
7. Finally, toss the watch in the trash, and go buy a Braille watch like the rest of us normal blind folks.

Thank you. I have spoken. 🤨

No. I will take it. I do not have a pool so do not need to worry about it. Save all that work and just send it UPS to me. Let me know when to give you my address.
