I have an Apple Watch 7 and use Voiceover.
Question: Do I have to have "Raise to Wade" enabled on my Apple Watch if I want to use the "Hey Siri" feature?
I tried turning "raise to Wake" off and then saying "Hey Siri" to my watch, but it won't respond unless I have "raise to wake" enabled.
I thought I could just say "Hey Siri" to the watch if that feature was enabled just like I could to my iPhone.
I don't like having the "Raise to Wake" feature on because, often, when I raise my arm, the watch turns on and Voiceover starts speaking. This is a bit disruptive at times.
Thanks for any suggestions.

No.
If you have hey siri on you do not. I press the crown to get siri. Do have hey siri on but never use it.
So you can use "Hey Siri" with "Raise to Wake" turned off?
I have tried this over and over and can't get "Hey Siri" to work if "Raise to Wake" is turned off. I can press the digital crown to get Siri to work, but not just by speaking if that option is off.
I have an Apple Watch 7 running Watch 10.01. Which watch and version of the OS do you have? Maybe that is the issue.

I think it has to be on
I've never really had an issue. I think it has to be on because you have to bring the watch a little closer to your mouth to speak into it. It makes sense to me anyway. Now if only you can speed up Siri like you can on the phone, it sounds so slow compared to how my phone is set. Sorry I'm not more help.
Iām curious about this tooā¦
Iām curious about this too. Does anyone actually use Siri on their Apple Watch? I canāt enable it without it triggering voiceover all the time.
Siri
I use it but just by pressing crown. With OS 10.1 works well. I can ask her to show me how much sleep I got and respond. She does not read it but open the data for me. I am planning to get the 9 so I can use the new feature and hoping I can get $150 for my 7 before is to late.
Raise to wake
A little tip that might help a bit. You can have raise to wake on, but go into VoiceOver settings and turn āspeak on wrist raiseā off. This way, the screen wakes, but VoiceOver does not speak unless you touch the screen.

Re: Raise to Speak
Dave,
Thanks for the suggestion. I actually did have that off in the Watch app. I see now that the screen does open but not speak until touched.
I must have been hearing it speak when the cuffs of my long sleeve shirt touched the screen after rasing to wake. maybe that explains what I've been hearing.
Well at least this should get rid of some of the excess speaking.
Thanks.
