Issues with speech central

Hello all, I have a problem with the Speech Central app. When I open the application, the list of books and documents is empty. I tap the 'add file' button and add a PDF file from my files. I start reading it. When I close the app and reopen it, the list of books and documents is empty, as if I never added anything before. For some reason, Speech Central is deleting my documents when I close the app and reopen it. Has anyone encountered this issue? I have the latest iOS and iPhone 14.

That is by design.

The read items are moved to the Archive by default.

You can customize that in the Settings.

This is a good feedback as currently there is only a visual feedback to the user when this happens and there should be also a VoiceOver feedback in the future too, I agree.

No, I don't think I expressed myself well in the first message. I don't read the book; instead, for example, I press the play button, listen for a while, press the pause button, close the application. When I open it again, the book's title appears for a second, but it disappears within half a second and it just says "empty list." And this happens for every book or document I add, either directly from my phone or from my cloud.

Your description fits very well in what I have said, and as far as I understand you haven’t tried to check if it is true or not.

Technically the item can only be in the Archive, and again I don’t think that you have specifically checked that.

If you can confirm this then there are two possibilities that leads to this:

1. Moving of read items (regular method that leads to this)

2. Syncing via iCloud (which is highly unlikely to lead to this and it would be some unknown bug)

You can disable either of those in the Settings.

Just to confirm that the item shouldn’t be marked as read if you do exactly only this, but I would guess that you make some additional gesture that you may not be aware of. The best test is to open the item after you read it and while it is still there - if it goes from start then you have certainly marked it as read with some action.
