Not really anything aggravating to me, but I'm wondering about this. Since updating to iOS 17, my phone occasionally appears to already be awake when I press the side button, which makes it make the door bolt sound and puts it to sleep, or locks it, or what ever it's called.
As best as I can tell, it doesn't make any sound when it wakes, and it's setting on the desk, not plugged in, so it's not getting its buttons pressed or anything like that. I recall brushing a finger across the screen once, and it made the end-of-screen bonk when I hadn't woken it yet. The "Hay SIRI" thing is turned off, and saying that or just "SIRI" or making any other noises doesn't cause anything to happen. I'm on the latest update at this point, but it started with the 17 update.

You probably did the following but just in case. Did you check to see if lock screen is on? Also if you have stand by off?
That wouldn't be it
This is when it is not charging, and it's only happened a few times that I know of. The odd part is it doesn't seem to say the time or anything when it happens. I suppose I've had it wake a few times on its own right after an update before, and I just assumed it was continuing to update something, but it always announced the time. It just makes it creepier that I don't know it's happened and how long it's setting there awake...

Maybe phone is not sleepy and planning some trouble! Only time I hear from my phone is during notification.
An iGhost maybe?
Guess I could just ignore it. It might go away. There aren't any notifications or anything when it happens.
Tap to wake
You may have tap to wake turned on. If so, go to settings, accessibility, touch, and then you can switch off tap to wake. Hope this helps.
Nope
That's not on, but I tapped the phone a bit, just to see. Nothing happened. As far as I know, it's not making that bleep noise when it wakes on its own either.
Me
Yeah that happened to me a few times. Obviously couldn't tell cuz the phone was closed—and by that I mean the case was on, and I do have enough vision to be able to see if the screen is on, but I don't keep my phonecase open, especially if I'm just tryna wake it to check the time, etc it stopped happening now but very weird
Proof!
Thanks for telling me, Curly.
