Barely a week after dropping the major iOS 17, iPadOS 17, and watchOS 10 releases, Apple has unexpectedly pushed out updates to patch some concerning security flaws. iOS 17.0.1, iPadOS 17.0.1, and watchOS 10.0.1 are now available for download.

These types of quick sub-point updates usually signify urgent bugs or vulnerabilities that Apple wanted to address rapidly. The release notes state these updates provide "important security updates and are recommended for all users."

As today's updates appear to have been released to address a small set of specific issues, our expectation is that they do not contain any accessibility changes for blind and low vision users; however, if you notice any changes, improvements or regressions in your own use of the software, please post a comment below with your findings.

iOS 17.0.1 and iPadOS 17.0.1 are available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) via Finder on a Mac with macOS Catalina or later, or via iTunes on a PC or Mac with macOS Mojave or earlier.

watchOS 10.0.1 is available via Over-the-Air Update (Settings > General > Software Update) or by going to the Watch app on your iPhone and navigating to General> Software Update. To install the update, your Watch must be connected to its charger and have at least 50% battery power.

So far, pairing has worked fine, and I've been off and on both display and phone trying to break it.

Since this is a 17.0.1 release, I honestly didn't have any expectations, but still thought I'd report that on my iPhone 13 pro, I'm not noticing any differences with this update. I have noticed, though, that battery life has been horrific since Monday. Then again, I've been doing a lot of screen sharing with Apple Support, so I'm sure that's a factor, but today at work, my battery went from 100 percent all the way to 40 percent. Normally, at the end of a work day, my battery is still around 70 percent. I have Apple care, so maybe it's time to look into a new battery, especially since I plan to keep this phone for as long as possible.

Caching and other setup operations are going on. I hear the same complaints after every update about battery. They should resolve themselves in a few days, if not, check your battery health; if it is above 80% or it isn't complaining, it is doing okay.

I found to my surprise that my time was set to one quarter second. I don't know about you, but I'm just not that fast, so I changed it to 0.45 seconds, and now double tap works just fine! smile.

Thanks Paul. It was your comment that got me to take a look.

I sure wish Apple wouldn't release upgrades that change settings without any warning.

The sound valume is up with the lock screen or when I open phone. Nice. Very stable for me in my 13 pro. Batter is not that great but is a recent update so it will take time to adjust.

hi, I'm using my Zoomax eReader, and it incorrectly displays numbers now,, unlike it used to in 16.0.
Is anybody els having this issue? For example the number sixteen shows up in the incorrect format, also punctuation. It shows as, numbersign, dot 2, then lower f. However, using US grade 2 Braille, it show's correctly.

Could they have fixed the app dragging through the edit menu bug, where apps could not be dropped where the edit menu told you that they would be dropped? I just tried five times to drag apps, and was successful. It was in two different circumstances. But this could have been coincidental. However, I just checked on the first page of my home screen, and dragging apps still creates unsolicited folders. Oh well. It was too good to be true.

During the iOS 17 beta cycle, drag and drop was most unreliable for me when changing the positions of apps on the Dock, with folders being unexpectedly created when I opted to drop an app. Does this seem improved on iOS 17.0.1?

VO doesn’t describe images for me anymore.after iOS 17.0.1. Is anyone else having this problem?

There are three braille translation engines available for English in iOS 17, which are labelled RTFC, Liblouis and System. It seems that you are using RTFC. You should select one of the tables under the System heading to resolve your issue. (You can choose an option under Liblouis if you like, but you'll find that the braille using a System option will be slightly more accurate.)

I've noticed something with the heart rate app on watch OS. Sometimes, VoiceOver doesn't always read the heart rate. When you swipe, it says nothing. I double tap and eventually, it reads the number. Whether this is a bug, I don't know and i'm not sure how to report it directly to Apple.

Strange. What you said brings me back to ios 14.3-ish apple put in some programming thing in activities that made VO speak all punctuation no matter how much I played with the punctuation rotor, wasn't on here then and hadx for about half a year before got new device.Grrr!
