Why does this keep happening?

Hi all. from my crazy posts of last night, you realize I have an iPhone five now. WhenI had the four, when I clicked the power button to end a call it would end the call and do the following. Screen locked, then enter the lock he screen twice to keep it locked. In other words, push to end, in the lock screen, tap button again to lock it. i thought this was my quirky device. It seems the new phone from last night does the same ting. I upgraded my device to a sixty four gb one, and they had one, left. So is itjust me or is anyone else's phone doing this? If so is there a work around besides touching the screen? the power seemed so much faster and easier for me then pull away tap, hope the call ends. Thanks all. Siobhan

I'[ve found that the power button to end a call is not the best way to go. You also don't need to tap the end call button on the screen. Just pull the phone away from your ear, and do a two-finger double tap on the screen. It never fails to work for me.

Hi. Thanks for responding. I'm wondering if IOS seven will be a little bit faster and maybe it will actually work better? I'm only wondering because i really don't like Voice over yelling when I'm on a call, if it were upt o me the mute switch would mute Voice over on a call so we could justhangup like normal and not act so odd, but that's me. :) Thanks I'll see if the double tap is a little less tempermental. :)

Hi there Siobhan, I've found the pressing the lock screen button only works when the phone is pressed against your ear. With the iPhone 5 you only need to press it once, and the call will end and the screen will be locked. Otherwise if you have the phone pulled away from your ear a two finger double tap (like Lisa mentioned) will end the call. It has never failed for me. I too hope that there will be an option to silence voiceover while on a call in iOS 7. Although I like being able to hear the notifications I also find it distracting if I've received a particularly long text message. Be well, Blue Orb

Hi. Thanks for your response. what i'm confused is, yes, it ends the call, great. However it says screen locked, then clicks, so i'm left in the lock screen. I need to either unlock or push it again to completely lock the screen. My old AT&T phone did this, now so does verizon's new phone too. I'm just annoyed it doesn't stay locked. Thanks again.

If it clicks and is at least in the lock screen, it will lock itself very shortly anyway. As far as silencing VoiceOver during a call, I'm guessing they don't do this, because if call waiting came through, or some other thing like that, you couldn't answer the new call. However, if you really want voiceOver to be quiet during a call, you can always do a three-finger double tap on the screen, to silence the speech, and then just do again when you're off the phone to turn it back on. I actually have my phone set so that VoiceOver never reads any of my notifications until I look at them, so this isn't an issue for me. I don't like VoiceOver reading my notifications out loud, until I'm ready to hear them.

Hi! Is it possible to turn off VO reading of textmessages also during a call? I don't think so, but one can never be sure... :) I think I have turned of what can be turned off when it comes to reading of notifications, but messages still starts reading when in the middle of a call, but never when not on a call... Pretty annoying... I've figured that the method to stop it from reading while on a call, that causes you to get fastest back to the call when this happens, is to just move the phone quickly away from your ear and then back again. Just enough to cause the phone to go on speaker-mode for a millisecond and then back to the ear-piece... That's usually enough to interupt the reading and stop VO from reading the rest... But annoying, oh yeah it is! :)

I never have any text messages read to me during a call. I have my phone set to not show text messages in the lock screen. This does mean, however, that when you get a text, you have to unlock the phone in order to read it, you won't see the preview in the lock screen. But that's actually how I prefer it, so it works for me.

Hi, You can also just do a quick two finger single tap to mute VO when it starts talking while on a call. I do this when I can, but I'm often on Bluetooth across the house from the phone. ;)

Lisa! That is brilliant! I always use the 3 finger double tap to silence VO when I'm listening to music but never thought about doing this to keep it quiet during a call. The answer was so obvious! Thank you. Blue Orb P.S. I also agree with all of the reasons you mentioned as to why they program VO to continue to speak even when you're on a call. For this I am thankful... sometimes. Other times not so much. :)
