Weather Gods 4.2.1

iOS and iPadOS

Hi All,

Hope you're having a great Sunday.

Just stopping by to say that 4.2.1 is now available.

There are a number of changes but the two significant changes are.

Weather Station Widget
You can have your own weather station on your iPhone or iPad, with the iPad supporting the extra large widget size, meaning a really comprehensive weather station.

Severe Weather Indicator
We are unifying the alerts, threats and storm reports into the severe weather centre. Soon we will add lightning here as well. What this means is that a single indicator on the Pantheon or Weather Wheel lets you know how severe the weather is, and you can get all your severe weather information from the same screen.

Next up will be support for iOS17 and WatchOS10 and the new Standby mode - I am curious to find out how this works with Voiceover?

Finally, thank you to our beta testers and translators - you are very much appreciated!

I hope you enjoy the update.
Scott

Hi Scott. I'm no longer a beta tester of your app due primarily to the fact that I'm still on an iPhone 7 and probably cannot gain access to some of these newer features. But I'm still here, loving your app and hoping to get a newer iPhone one of these years. I recently shared a forecast with my nephew and niece who are both fully sighted, and they thought it was pretty awesome. So as always keep up the great work.

Hi Ekaj

Sorry that I have had to drop some of the older Apple phones and watches - Apple relentlessly push the devs forward bringing out new APIs and features. I try to resist as long as possible but each new version of iOS or WatchOS just makes my job 10 times harder as I have to maintain backwards compatibility. The recent widget and complication changes just made that no longer possible.

Thanks for sharing Weather Gods with your nephew and niece and I'm glad they loved it. I still continue to keep a free version of the app which is entirely usable without a subscription.

Yep, fully supported on the iPad with Lock Screen widgets, Home Screen widgets etc.

You can also use on your Apple Silicon MacBooks.

Have it on my 9. When the beta for 17 is done, I will see about widgets on the lock screen.

How would that work? I have the phone and watch ones, though I don't dive into the customization as much as I should. Curious how to get it on the Mac? I'd be interested. Also hoping my grandfathered subscription would be active since I bought it outright before you went to the subscription model. Thanks for a great app.

As long as the MacBook is M1, M2 etc then you just install it through the Mac App Store on the Mac.

I believe the grandfathered subscription will carry over as it uses your original purchase receipt to determine status.

I can't say I test regularly Voiceover Weather Gods on the Mac but feedback I have had is Weather Gods works really well on the Mac with Voiceover.

It would be useful to have notifications follow the "follow me" feature. For example, if I turn on notifications for my home town, I would like that when I travel the notifications I turned on for my home town will turn off automatically, and the same notifications will turn on automatically for my new location. Also, I noticed that the weather summary, if very long, is truncated. For example:
WEATHER GODS, 7 hours ago, Parma Today, Cloudy skies early, then overcast later. High 27.8°. East winds shifting to west south west at 10 to 25 kilometers per hour. Rainfall less than one-tenth of an inch. Tonight: Overcast. Low 15.0°. Winds south at 15 to 20 kilometers per hour. Rainfall up ...
Maybe a shorter version of the weather summary could be useful to turn on or off in settings.

Yes, I would like the notifications to follow people as they move around. However, it's incredibly difficult to do as we would have to keep streaming peoples GPS locations to our server. I've got some ideas but I would like to implement storm and lightning notifications first.

Regarding truncating of notifications. I just checked some long ones on my phone and Voiceover reads everything out for me.

You can also use the "more" action to get the full text on the screen, although it's the same as far as Voiceover goes.

Maybe it's a setting somewhere ?

Sorry, there is only me working on Weather Gods and I have a day job as well LOL.

My day job does include developing iOS and Android apps, but that's another story.
