Formatting an SD card using a Mac

Hi there. As the subject line shows, i'm simplu wondering how i go about formatting an SD card using a Mac book air running the latest version of Mac OS please? I've never carried out this procedure before now? I assume, as with windows, this is possible? I'd really appreciate either some instruction how to do this, or alternatively if anyone could direct me to any already existing written or audio demos i can follow. Thank you in advance for any help.

Thanks very much Oliver. All done, and I'll be keeping hold of your instructions until I get the hang. never be worried, when you see my name, about providing instructions in as much detail as you did. Although I've been a Mac user about a year now I've still a lot to learn. Thank you so much.
