Running the latest ventura. going to youtube, after typing a search in, it says verified, closed captioning cc and doesn't stop speaking. It just started a couple of days ago. Can anyone confirm this or even fix it? It's kinda frustrating and annoying. This happened on edge and Safari.

I have not noticed this issue. I just go through headings when going through my search results.

This issue has come and gone for me in the last few days. I suspect it's on Youtube's end, as no changes have been made to my Mac.

Tyler thanks, I didn't do anything either. It seemed to work this morning now it's just annoying and weird. as for going through headings, I can't even open the headings list when this happens.

Disclaimer: I am going to suggest a 3rd Party option. Please don't hate me. πŸ™ƒ

Sometime ago Google had the "absolutely wonderful" idea (see: Sarcasm) to implement a feature called InLine Autoplay, or something to that affect. For sighted users, this is handy, as it allows sighted users to hover their mouse pointer over a video link which in turn will play the video in a small window. Not sure if this is an overlay, a PiP scenario, or something else. The bottom line is that it lets (sighted) users quickly check out a video excerpt before actually clicking on the video link.

The problem with all of this, is that it all but breaks screen reader functionality. As a screen reader user navigates YouTube, each focusable video link prompts the spamming of "Verified" and other random speech output. To further frustrate screen reader users, the output repeats so often, that it acts like a denial of service attack, locking up screen readers, crashing browsers, and hanging systems.

What's even worse, is that there is an option under settings on the main YouTube to disable this feature.... which lovingly does absolutely nothing.

A solution:

Here is where my disclaimer comes in. I have a work-around using a 3rd Party browser I downloaded from the App Store. I am sure there are other methods, and your mileage may vary, but for me the 3rd Party browser has some built-in features such as enabling/disabling ads, enabling/disabling YouTube Shorts, enabling/disabling the clutter on the home page such as suggested videos, etc.

This browser I use for YouTube is not the end all, be all solution, but at least I can enjoy videos without hearing the word 'verified' every 3 1/2 seconds. πŸ˜ƒ

One final note:
The browser I use has some unlabeled buttons the first time you run it, but the YouTube page (including Video pages) all appear to have everything labeled properly. πŸ˜…

I do not think is youtube because if it was it would be affecting in windows. No issues for me.

Personally, I experience this in both Windows 10 and MacOS 13.5.1. I will admit it is much worse on the Mac side, but its there in Windows as well, at least while using my setup. πŸ€·πŸ»β€β™‚οΈ
