seeking opinions: Wipr verses Ad guard Pro?

Hi there.

I was wondering if anyone could give me some advice. I am looking at two different apps for ad blocking.
Wipr and Ad Guard Pro. I am a Mac and iPhone user. Which would you say is better, easy to use and change settings etc?
I am not particularly techy if i'm honest so, something simple that is eassy to use and does the job would be preferable.

I would like to use one app for both iOS and Mac if possible. However I do appreciate that this might not be possible.

Advice, thoughts and opinions welcome.

Thanks
LIam

I believe that adgard pro is a more versatile ad blocking product. And as far as I’m aware, it is something you can use on both Mac and iOS. There are a lot of great ad block lists that you can incorporate. Moreover, the application on iOS is 100% accessible. I unfortunately don’t know about the max side.

So, if you install AdGuard Pro for iOS, go to the AdvancedMD tab on the bottom, right. Then navigate to general, appearance, and other. Double tap on that and swipe down to advanced mode and turn it on. Then go to the protection tab, which is the second tab on the bottom. Double tap on. Find and double tap on DNS protection. Then find and double tap on. Double tap on DNS filtering. Then find and double tap on DNS filters. Then find and double tap on add a filter. And then paste in the following link:

Follow the prompts, which I believe is next. Name it and follow the prompts again and you will have essentially one of the best at blocking filters there is.

Heya Ash

Thanks for that. I've done that and called the new filter, filter 1 as I wasn't sure what else to call it.
It seems to have enabled a lot of rules so I guess that's good?

VPN AdGuard did say something about AdGuard VPN not being installed. Is it worth doing that too? It looks like that's also a subscription or one off purchase. Guessing that's accessible to and is that worth it also?
Thanks for your help

It’s a decent VPN, but not really needed at all. I don’t use it personally I know that some people might find it useful. It really depends on if you want that level of privacy.

Ah, I see.
Thanks for that. So, if I can ask what did that text file actually do in regards filtering?

Thanks

It adds rules for specific types of ads to be removed.

Thanks for that.

I have also downloaded AdGuard for Mac. but having some trouble enabling tick boxes for some reason. can I use the same text file to do the same thing on the Mac regarding rules?

If so do you know how to do that?
Thanks for your help :)

Unfortunately, I’m not really familiar with the max side of Edgard. They do actually have pretty good responsive customer service still. I think if you emailed them they’ll let you know. It is probably googlable as well.

Heya

Ah, no worries. I've copied the link you sent to me for the text file and it seems to have added more rules. Its a lottle more complex to get my head around but we'll see :)

Thanks for all your help and advice though

Appreciated

Does add guard pro block adds on youtube on IOS? I'm currently using add block pro and so far it seems to do the job well but doesn't block adds on youtube, at least on the IOS side.

Honestly, I pay for YouTube premium. So I don’t really know. I believe the link I provided above with the extra rules does block YouTube ads. Keep in mind that YouTube is making changes where any blocking is going to be problematic. I don’t know when it’s gonna be implemented.

HeyHey there.
Another AdGuard pro user here and I am a huge fan of the program because it also allows you to not only block ads in Safari, but with all apps or interupt unwanted connections.
If you go to the protection tab, click DNS protection you can set up a different DNS server through which your internet traffic gets routed through, I'd suggest the Mullward DNS server because they are pritty privacy friendly.
Another good block list is the following:

Hi

I imagine it doesn't block ads on Youtube. that is what premium is for.

Hi

Just wondering what that rule set blocks? is there a way to look at that if you click on the link?

There are quite a few add blocking options for blocking adds on youtube on PC, as well as some on IOS but the options are quite limitted. I will look at the link provided and set my dns settings accordingly to block youtube adds.
