Apple only released iOS 17 beta 6 today, as well as the watchOS 9.6.1 update; no other developer or public beta releases of upcoming operating systems have been published today, contrary to what the original post claims. For example, the latest macOS developer beta was released more than a week ago. It's not a good idea to mislead your readers by claiming something that can be proven false with less than 60 seconds of research.

Hmm so what have I done correctly that might have been lost when your intelligence pill didn't dissolve properly in your belly? Seriously dude, check again, reboot, or is it possible your box isn't up to such a task? No shame here buddy. In the end, you are incorrect.

Hi, all. Yesterday, I updated to IOS 17.0 public beta. I thought the public beta was further along as evident by some posts here. I'm using an iPad mini 6. Is 17.0 the latest version I can install? I hope not since I cannot connect my Brailliant BI40X to my iPad mini. I know I run this risk of things not working, but just thought I'd check in case its Braille issue was fixed in a further version release. Thanks.

Has anyone been able to get audio transcription working? All I get is "no transcript available" every time I try encounter audio messages.

By Ipadman on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

In iOS 16, there’s a bug where you can’t swipe forwards and backwards through an audio track, because it will only let you go a few seconds on each swipe.
In previous versions of iOS, each swipe would be a percentage of the audio file.
Has this bug been resolved?

Ok Guys well I still cannot use the native weather app in beta 4. This started in 3 and basically swiping through the hours makes the whole thing suddenly lose focus. Even switches places I think but it is hard to tell as it's unusable. Already reported but getting worrying as I would have thought being a native app they would be looking at this closely as so many people may use it.

Both bugs I reported with the last beta have been fixed. First, the temperature controls in the Home app for my thermostat are now working again. Second, widgets now read in the right language. Before, even though my devices are in Spanish, app language is set to Spanish, but widgets were all reading in English. It was rather annoying, but has now been fixed.

to reproduce the following
1 turn off auto correct and predictive
write the following.
thiss iss a tesst.
paste this into messages and mail.
Go to miss spelled words. Correct them then go back to make sure you got them all. In messages you will have none. In mail they will still be there. Please report this.

By Earle on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

I'm not having any issues with the latest beta using spell check in mail. When I make corrections they stay corrected.

By Dennis Long on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

Did you follow the instructions I didn't say it didn't stay corrected the issue is it doesn't go away. so you think it needs corrected.
reposting the instructions

1 turn off auto correct and predictive
write the following.
thiss iss a tesst.

Go to miss spelled words. Correct them then go back to make sure you got them all. In messages you will have none. In mail they will still be there. as if you haven't corrected them. Please report this.

By Earle on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

I followed your instructions but I can't reproduce this. When I check for misspelled words they are corrected. VO doesn't report that they need correcting once I've corrected them.

By Dennis Long on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

just to be completely sure once you correct the words. If you swipe up or down it says something like no miss spelled words right? The words aren't still there correct? What phone do you have?

By Earle on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

The misspelled words are gone. VoiceOver makes the sound indicating there are no misspelled words. I'm using an iPhone 12 Pro with Developer Beta 6.

hello all, So with the newest beta have the apostrophes been removed if i use the dictionary? I prefer reading a book with eloquence, and how about please, the sample rate? i just can't work out why it isn't the same eloquence as in JAWS, Talks, etc. i will go on to the public beta now maybe the developer one in the hopes that eloquence is better and not saying apostrophes before people speak.

By Indra on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

@will still no improvement on Eloquence not say ' when someone speak...

By Karok on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

I know i can create a rule to block out the apostrophe character but then it would say wdnt and cant and shdnt etc, so irritating, as it does not happen, I don't believe, with other voices but on my PC, it never does this. Very very odd but thank you for the update.

Hi, would any of the public beta testers be able to definitively say whether the focus bug present in iOS 16.6.1 is still a problem in iOS 17 Beta 6 please? I have recently managed to get rid of the VO crashing bug by deleting data until my phone is only 40% full. While frustrating I can’t use my own memory I paid for, at least its a fix. I haven’t seen anyone say they were having the focus bug and now it’s fixed in iOS 17. I’d really appreciate being able to find out. As an example, while typing this message, focus has jumped at least 7 times and thats pretty good going. Sometimes it can be 10 - 20 times.

By Karok on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

Andy Strangely I don't have a focus issue running ios 16,6,1 very odd. I am using an iphone 14 pro and I braille screen input to type.

By Bruce Harrell on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

It would be helpful if you told us whether you used to have the focus problem before telling us you don't have it now. Simply saying you don't have the focus problem is not very helpful to those who do have the focus problem and are waiting to find out if beta 6 finally gets rid of it. Did beta 6 get rid of the focus problem? Andy and I and others don't know. You haven't told us.

By Lee on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

Guys, in iOS16 I had the bug where VO would lose focus and screen curtain would be announced which implied VO had restarted. This happened with most non compact voices. As of now I've tried a few voices and I have no focus issues. VO seems to be ok with the voices I've tried. I may just be lucky obviously. iPhone 13 pro.

Thats the first encouraging thing I’ve read about these bugs. I don’t think it’s quite enough to install the public beta yet although the pull might increase. If 1 or 2 others say they had a similar experience, Had focus bugs and now don’t have focus bugs in iOS 17 then I’m going to do it. The only reason I don’t install the beta now is that my trust and faith in my iOS devices is so so low after almost a year of nothing working like it should and honestly making things worse could very well mean I just go and buy an old pixel 6 or something. Anything to make it stop even if I waste money. At least what I have now is a known and understood terrible experience. If that got even worse, I’d be pretty annoyed with myself. Thanks again.

By Dominic on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

Think it’s fixt, Haven’t had it happened to me in a long while

By Dominic on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

I wouldn’t keep your hopes up, Sadly as this might come back

By Bingo Little on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

Hi guys,

I've heard rumours of pretty serious Braille bugs amounting to show stoppers when using Braille displays such as the Mantis. I have a brailliant BI20X - any observations on these bugs, please? Apologies if I've missed something that's already been said.

By John W. Hess on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

Good day to all. I have been testing iOS 17 since Beta 1. So far, I have seen much improvement. Beta 6 has been solid for me with no jumping or focus issues and I am using the iPhone se3. I'm really feeling like this will be a solid release. I have not been able to test Braille and I encourage all who are comfortable to install the beta, try your displays and leave feedback. I feel like Apple is actually responding to feedback and I'm hopeful that a barrage of Braille feedback could make a difference.
An example of Apple responding to feedback: I had a weird bug where if I was reading a web page using the read all 2-finger swipe down and I pressed the volume buttons it would then jump to the top. I reported this and it was corrected. In one of the betas, the phone would not speak the time when unlocking the device. That was corrected. These are small things, but it does seem like they are working on stuff. Also, updates are quite frequent about once every week or 2 weeks which is nice to see what is going on. So, please! do not tire of this wonderful exercise of reporting feedback. It's making a difference and I believe we will have a solid release when it comes out. Oh, one more thing: Who said that? Do not be afraid to try the beta. Beta 1 was extremely solid, and I had no problems with it. Also, the watch betas are excellent and starting from beta 1 I had no problems. The iPhone I am using is my primary phone and watch my primary watch.

By Lee on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

Well, for me using iPhone 13 pro drag and drop works perfectly. Indeed apart from beta 2 release I've never had drag and drop issues. It was fixed in beta 3 and still works now in beta 4 public release. So a bit like the focus issue this seems to be affecting in general only certain people or devices.

By Lee on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

Should have said I seem to be the only one who cannot use the native weather app. Nobody else seems to be having issues. So again some odd things are going on.

By Jim D on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

Not sure if this is related to the focus bug others have been experiencing, but in the couple of iOS 17 betas I've tested, I can no longer flick through the hourly forecast in the weather app. I can flick through the next six or seven hours, but then it immediately jumps to the bottom and the next city in the location picker is automatically selected. As I rely on the hourly forecast in the Weather app a lot, this is quite annoying. I know, there are other weather apps, but I like the native one. I've reported this bug via the feedback app.

Unlike the other beta releases of iOS, iPadOS, watchOS, and tvOS that came out earlier this week, macOS is still on developer beta 5 which was released on August 8, not this week along with the other beta releases, as the original post still inaccurately claims. macOS is likely to have a delayed beta release schedule as its official release occurs later in the year than do those of iOS and operating system based upon it.

By Lee on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

Yes Jim this is what I've mentioned re the weather app. Exactly the same issue. Finally, someone else who has this issue. Have you reported it? I have but we need more to do so.

By JC on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

Hi everyone,

Just like in previous years, MacOS Sinoma will continue beta until October. Rumors suggested that MacOs would be released in September alongside other operating systems, however, due to the delay of betas for MacOS, that's no longer the case. so therefore, it'll be in October, just like in previous years. Apple still needs to work on lots, and I do mean lots of bugs on macOS before we see an official release. Other operating systems such as iOS, watchOS, and tvOS will be released in September just like in previous years.

By Ash Rein on Monday, August 21, 2023 - 18:14

I don’t know if it’s gotten worse. But it is very difficult to use yes. I would say don’t stop at submitting one feedback report continually hound them about it. It’s very important but you make sure they get every aspect of this issue so that they can be encouraged to fix it.
