Tile and Apple Air Tags

I am about to take a solo trip to Italy in a little over three weeks.

I am a medium-low partial with mild hearing loss.

I am trying to decide whether getting Tile or Apple Air Tags to track my luggage and to use as personal bluetooth beacons in unfamiliar environments would be better for me. Which would you guys recommend and why?

I have heard that Tile has louder tags, but I am actually wondering which Tiles are currently the loudest. I am wondering the same about Air Tags. Are there ones that are louder than others?

Do one or both of these vibrate when your phone gets closer to them? Does LIDAR help with any of this? Honestly, because of all these questions, I am thinking about going ahead and just getting both. If I do so, is there any chance of them interfering in any way with each other?

Any help with any or all of these questions would be much apreciated.

Hi Misty,
I use tial, and hav found it great when I need to find my keys. Tile will play a musical sound when you are looking for it, however from what I have found it needs to have a bluetooth conection to your phone. I'm not sure how it goes tracking it when it isn't in the same location as your phone. Tile is great for finding things in the one area, however for tracking items in different locations I think airtag has better results. I don't have one, but plan on buying one soon.

Have 2 one for my wallet and keys. If you leave one behind you get an alert. The sound is not that loud. Do not got any haptic alert when left behind. If there is a setting do not know. If you use a pro phone you will get very precisedirection to find the tag.

I have neither Tiles nor Air Tags, but somebody from The Hadley Institute for the Blind and Visually Impaired recently responded to some feedback I sent about one of their new technology workshops. She included a link to the Tiles website, and I bookmarked it just out of curiosity. I believe Tiles aren't specific to Apple. Additionally, I'm wondering if the Luggage Locator thing is still around? I seem to recall my brother having one of those but it was stolen and had to be replaced. I'm in no way advocating in favor of stealing things, but just saying. Whichever product you choose or if you choose both, I hope you have a nice trip. Safe travels!

I just bought a four pack of AirTags and recently listened to the podcast done by AppleVis and from Jonathan Mosen for information. Mosen at Large is #118.
There are seven podcasts in the AppleVis run and a few more previous to the AirTag release having to do with what was going to be released.
If you go to the AppleVis site and search for AirTags and filter by podcast, you’ll see 05-03-2021, AppleVisPodcast1401,Apple AirTags Initial Setup AppleVis.mp3

For tracking luggage and other items, I would recommend tile if you want something a bit louder, because the volume is adjustable and the sound plays for longer than an AirTag. However, for your personal beacon, I would recommend it AirTag because when you are looking for it the phone will give you a distance indicator to see if you are Getting further or farther away from it or closer to it. Also, I heard tile is supposed to be getting the precision finding feature, but not sure if they have yet and with AirTags you do not need a pro phone for the precision finding it works even on my iPhone 13 mini. I think it works on any device with a WB chip. Also, AirTags have replaceable batteries and only some versions of tile have replaceable batteries others when the battery dies you’re just need to get a whole new device. They do not interfere with each other.

How do you turn up a tile’s volume? When I hit the volume control on the app, it appears to do nothing with VoiceOver.
