Hi everyone, I am trying to play some of the blindfold games. However, no matter how I set the game settings, every time I start to play one of the games, all I hear from VoiceOver is direct touch area. What am I doing wrong? And can I play the games using my bluetooth keyboard? Thank you.

Hello,
whenever you hear direct touch area, this means that the app supports direct touch. This is what lets the application take over processing gestures.

To turn it on, move your rotor to the direct touch option which should become available, and swipe up to turn it on. At that point you should be able to use the gestures to play the game.

No idea about their Bluetooth keyboard support as I don't play any of them.

I just downloaded one of my RSS games from blindfold games. Fortunately, it was offloaded so I had all the data. Turned on direct touch. All the gestures work fine. It will not work with a hable. Which indicates, it may not work with a keyboard or a braille display. I haven’t tested that out. But I do have both.

Some of the games can support Bluetooth keyboard commands, but most do not appear to do so. I don't believe they are in development any longer. Anyway, I use the games that were not developed to support braille or keyboard access as examples of what can happen when these games are not when standard VoiceOver gesture development would have meant more players and it would have been accessible to a larger base of gamers. I understand some games can't be built for this type of thing, like games which require a lot of audio-speicific things to play them, the bowling game is an example, but there were other card games and things like that which could have been developed to support more users.

Thanks everyone for the comments. Does anyone know how I can get direct touh to appear in my rotor? I looked under the rotor, but I don’t see that option. I’m wondering if my direct touch got turned off by accident. Maybe I can look under haptics or? Maybe I’ll try that. It is really sad that htese games are no longer being developed. I think the developer had been having trouble with the Apple App Store.

Go into VoiceOver Alfie going to be accessibility then go down to somewhere where it says rotor actions then it should say direct touchups at the bottom
Direct touch apps
Hope this helps

Hello,
direct touch will show up in your rotor only when you are in an app which supports this. For instance, go to one of the Blindfold games, and exactly where it says direct touch area, that's when it will appear in your rotor.

Alternatively, as the previous poster said, you can manually enable it for specific apps in Voiceover settings. You can also enable it using the app switcher.
Similar process, open one of the Blindfold games, wait for direct touch to become available (usually start playing), then open your app switcher and focus on the game you want to enable direct touch for, and you should similarly find direct touch in your rotor.
