Wanting to try beta software for AirPods Pro

Apple Beta Releases

Along with testing iOS 17 Dev Beta and providing feedback, I'd like to do the same with my Air-pods Pro 2. Everything I've read so far says that the only way to get the beta on the Air-pods Pro requires a Mac Computer. I don't own a Mac and when I tried to get the folks at the Apple Store to help, they say that they can't. Am I out of luck or, is there a way to do this without a Mac? Thanks in advance, and let's keep helping Apple to know about and smash as many bugs as possible before general release.

Your Feedback is Important to Improving Accessibility on Apple platforms

Don't assume that Apple is aware of a bug or that your report won't make a difference - submitting bug reports directly to the company helps them reproduce and resolve the issue faster. Your report may provide crucial information. The more reports they receive, the higher the priority they give to fixing the bug.

If you're using a beta version, use the Feedback Assistant on your device to submit feedback and bug reports. If you're using a public release, follow the instructions on this page.

This is a very difficult process as a blind user. The app itself is not 100% accessible. However, it is possible to use it even with Jaws or. NVDA to enable developer mode on your iPhone. It’s going to take some practice. The basic steps are on the link below:

With a little patience, it will work. But again, it is not for anyone that isn’t experienced and using windows screen readers. Realistically, it would probably be easiest if you have a cited person download the app and then follow the steps. When I did it, it took me about two hours or so to figure everything out. Once I figured it out, it was very simple. But there was a massive learning curve.

You can try out the beta for your AirPods by following the instructions below.

To start, you’ll need the iOS 17 developer beta on your iPhone On your iPhone, open the Settings app
Choose Privacy & Security > swipe to the bottom and tap Developer Mode
Toggle it on and follow the process to restart your iPhone
After it reboots, make sure to tap Turn On
Now head back to Settings on iPhone > choose Developer (under TV Provider)
Swipe to the bottom and under AirPods Testing tap Pre-Release Beta Firmware
Tap the toggle next to your AirPods Pro 2
Apple says “Firmware updates will be installed when your AirPods are in their charging case and nearby this iPhone

Unfortunately, even though I'm running the iOS 17 Dev Beta on my iPhone, I'm not finding developer mode under privacy and security. The last option I find on that screen is lock down mode.

That is incorrect. A computer is absolutely needed. The only way to get the phone to enable developer mode is to either use Xcode on a Mac or an app like the one I described above for windows. Installing the developer beta does not automatically enable an eye device to have access to developer mode.

I was able to set my Air Pod Pros 2 to beta by using the instructions I sent. Not sure where you are getting the idea a computer is necessary. If you have iOS 17,and if you type in developer in the search field of settings, you should be able to do this.

I have an iPhone SE-3 and all of the above suggestions are not showing me the developer mode. I wish that Apple would let us have access to this mode since I am running the developer beta. If I can test on the phone, watch and Apple TV, why not the Air Pods Pro?

There is no question about it. A computer is 100% absolutely needed in every circumstance. Developer mode just doesn’t show up if you have the iOS beta installed. You manually have to turn it on either through Xcode. Or the application that was provided in the first post. I have been running AirPod beta since last year. I do not have a MacBook. I use a Windows laptop. And I have looked up and down every forum, every Reddit, every search engine, that I could think of. And it always comes back to the same thing. If you don’t have a Mac, the only other way is to Use icarephone application on windows: or a similar style application.

And here is another link that specifically details a need for a computer to enable developer mode. This one specifically details how X code is needed for Mac or icarephone for windows

As stated, there’s no way around this. I have been using beta for AirPods for over a year. I have scoured the Internet and there’s no other way. I know that could be frustrating. I know that it’s unfair. And it’s what is the reality.

Thank you for passing along this helpful information, but most of all, thank you for your patience with me. I did what I should've done in the first place and downloaded the software. I'll admit that I took the easy way out and sought assistance from Aira and things went well. I'm currently waiting for the beta to install on my Air Pods Pro as I write this response. Thanks again.
