iPhone won’t go into recovery mode, Max says it can’t install necessary software, what can I do

Alright, so it’s either my stupidity or my computer being an absolute annoyance, but I can’t get my iPhone into recovery mode to install iOS 16.6 and take off this God for second iOS 17 beta!
I’m trying to give this phone to my mum, and it’s not really helping that all of my data including my messages on here and I wanna get all of that off
I pressed the volume my button, I press the volume down button then I press the power button until it goes to the power off screen, whilst my phone is plugged into my computer, which is an M1 MacBook Air, I keep holding the power button Until voice stop speaking, can’t either 10 or 15, and release the home power button, it makes the ding sound then goes back to the passcode screen, so I try and restore that recovery mode, I got this message saying Yi Yu Ha, now my Mac isn’t even recognising my phone! So how can I reset it the computer, how can I reset the phone without the computer but downgrade to iOS 16

If you’re going to try to go out of beta, then you have to set your phone to DFU mode. This is somewhat challenging. I would suggest googling this to do all the proper steps. If you can’t do it, you’re going to have to take your phone to an Apple Store so they can restore it to software that is not beta.

You were doing it right, sort of.

Here is how I do it:

I rely on the chimes the computer gives off, so the first thing you have to do is plug the phone into the computer.

Do the following steps:

1. Volume up
2. Volume down
3. Hold the power button until the computer makes that second chime.

Once the phone shows you the power-off screen, keep holding the power button.

You'll hear a chime indicating that the phone is being powered off.

Continue holding the power button until you hear that second chime, which sounds like when you plug in a USB device.

Now your phone is in DFU mode.

Next, open iTunes and restore from an old backup.

Make sure the backup was made from iOS 16; the specific version doesn't matter as long as it's up to date.

People have begged you in the past to stop dictating your messages. There’s no way to understand what you’re writing. I’m never going to respond to another post you make under any circumstance. If you’re going to use dictation, go back and check instead of just Posting. Your message makes absolutely no sense.

Whether you’re on a Mac, or on windows, your iPhone needs to be on DFU mode to get it out of beta. There’s no other way. If you can’t do it on your own, ask a sighted friend or go to the Apple Store. It’s absolutely ridiculous that you decided to use software that you don’t fully understand. You didn’t do your research, you didn’t look at anything that was actually part of the process of being on beta software. And now you’re asking others to help you. And when help is provided, you repeatedly respond in a way that is not even comprehensible. Stop dictating. You’re not using it properly. The iPhone is not understanding you. If you must dictate, stop posting without checking what you’re posting.

It said that I had a MacBook not a Windows device. That, I have read your past comments, especially from eight years ago. Please don’t. I was just telling the person above you that I didn’t have a Windows device that I could use.

By Brad on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

I've told you, ash rein has told you and others have told you, we can't understand your messages when they're just dictated and sent without checking them.

You might think that it doesn't matter but it does. If you want to live your life outside of blind communities and get a job then you are going to have to learn how to write correctly.

I dictate when I'm feeling lazy but I check over what I've dictated and change what doesn't make sense.

If you're having issues typing then perhaps a bluetooth keyboard would help?

I'm sorry I couldn't help with your issue. i've decided this will be the last time I mention your typing.

If I can't understand a message from you I won't respond, but just because it's my last time mentioning it does not mean others won't bring it up in the future.

All I was saying was that those chimes were not on Mac, they are only on windows. And I’m literally pressing the volume up button, then releasing pressing and holding the volume down button, then releasing then holding the power button until it goes to the power of screen then I continue holding onto the power button after like 10 or 15 seconds and then I release it. that doesn’t even launch recovery mode, let alone DFU mode. I seriously can’t believe we are arguing over this.

Dominic,

By disregarding people's requests that you check your dictation output before posting it on the site, you not only make it hard for people to assist you but also exhibit a dismissive attitude that disrespects our community. It conveys the message that you do not think that we are worth your time and consideration. Making an effort to check your dictation before posting will greatly improve your interactions with the community and ensure that people are able and more willing to help you.

By DrummerGuy on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

Dominic, why don't you realize that by making it hard on people you're making it even harder on yourself?
People have been asking you nicely to check your dictation before you send your messages.
Why is it so difficult for you to do that?
Remember that respect gets you respect.
If you disrespect and ignore the advice that the nice folks are giving you, what do you think it's going to happen to your messages?
Sooner or later they will be ignored as well. By taking this dismissive attitude, you're just isolating yourself little by little.

By Dennis Long on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

I won't help him because he doesn't check his dictation. It isn't that hard.

I have a MacBook not a I have a MacBook I don’t have a Windows device good How does that make sense?

By Andy Lane on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

Maybe you could use your M1 MacBook to write your posts if you can’t get a Bluetooth keyboard for your phone. It seems pretty certain that something has to change. There seems to be some reason dictation can’t understand you beyond the fact that it sucks. Your posts really are unreadable and its been a problem for so many people who want to help you for so long that it looks like its time to try something new because the old way just isn’t working. I think considering how unreadable your messages often are that the community here has been pretty understanding and patient on the whole but that patience seems to have run out. Instead of having to fight everyone all the time when they can’t understand you, it really would be easier to find a way to make your point in a way people can understand.

By Dominic on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

Are we going to go off topic now, or are we actually going to go back into the issue that we were discussing, why my phone won’t go into recovery mode?

By Andy Lane on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

Thats a very British move. Using the terms and conditions to your advantage. I think Bingo would be proud. I can’t help you with your DFU issue unfortunately but I think others here can. Looks like you used a keyboard or something ike that. Whatever you did. Keep doing it. That last message was almost perfect and easily understood. Thats what people need, just to be able to understand what you’re writing. If you see it from their point of view. If someone was writing unreadable posts. You’d probably get frustrated too.

By Dominic on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

And I didn’t edit it, either LOL.
Sometimes it wants to understand me, sometimes it doesn’t
Why is it behaving so well now?
I wonder if I jinxed it all?
Maybe will just, just,,
,
Wow
It.
Actually
Decides.
Jimmy for once!
Oh, c terms and conditions! I just jinxed it.
Hey, at least I had less mistakes in the last couple of posts,
This message actually has less mistakes than all of the other messages. I have written in these comments or on this website entirely.
How wonderful, but I wouldn’t get your hopes up lads

By Andy Lane on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

If you still didn’t learn a lesson after everyone being understanding, insistent, asking nicely, getting angry, losing interest and asking nicely again then maybe it’s just not a lesson you are going to learn. Just don’t be surprised when people aren’t interested anymore. Everyone really has tried.

The subject says it all. I'm out.

By Dominic on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

This topic has been up for like a day. All of these comments aren’t even about the subject of the topic. Are you actually kidding me.

By Dominic on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

iPhone won’t go into recovery mode, Max says it can’t install necessary software, what can I do

That is the subject of this post, not

Let’s go criticising and going off on somebody, just because of the spelling mistakes. This isn’t an English website, it’s a technology website, for Apple products!

By Dominic on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

You didn’t need to bring into this topic, which had nothing to do with my dictation mistakes. There is a contact button for a reason. I find it annoying that people are going on this topic, when you can probably tell me about it, and not make this post a full on drama post. Now, can we please, please, please go back to what the subject was originally about now.

By Dominic on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

Thanks, although I already tried that and it didn’t work, plus people are saying I have to go into the sprinkle DFU mode. Is there a few mode like recovery mode, but just a different way to get into it is that what DFU mode means. I’m kinda confused between the differences.

By Brad on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

Do your teachers let you get away with spelling mistakes? No? Then don't expect others who rely on screen readers to do the same.

You might think we're harsh, perhaps we are, after all; we're not your friends, we're just people on the internet, but if you want to get a job and move out from your parrents place when you're older, spelling and punctuation is very important.

All we are asking is that you try, if you don't then that's up to you.

I posted a link that should hopefully help you with your phone.

I'm going to leave the topic alone now as i've done what I can.

By Brad on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

What's a sprinkle DFU mode?

I don't know sorry.

By Brad on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

I'll personally apologise, I honestly completely forgot the contact button existed.

By Jonathan Candler on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

Listen, for people who use dictation and you are too lazy to go in and proofread after, your lazy as all hell and ain't no one is gunna take you seriously! At, all! Dictation isn't gunna correct every, little, thing! I'm so tired of this mentality of blind people using dictation and really relying on it and not editing after! For god, sakes! I will keep on calling people out who are doing this sort of thing until they learn their lesson! If you can't proofread after using dictation, then don't use it at all! Simple! Don't get mad at me or anyone else who is speaking out about this because spelling, matters! Editing, matters! I will not stand for lazy writing! Goodness! I can't even understand what you're writing on about half the time because you are lazy to go back and edit your stuff! Do not, rely, on, dictation! Get it? Got it? Good! Moving on! PS, don't tell us we're going off topic because we're gunna call you out again, and again, and again until you get it in your head! It's why I don't text people who use dictation to rely on posting stuff! I can't stand it!

By Jonathan Candler on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

Sprinkle DFU mode is a recovery mode for people who rely too heavily on their dictation so much so that the phone must, and absolutely will go into recovery mode without warning. All your data will be gone without warning, your contacts, gone. Apps? Gone! Everything will be clean off your phone and your phone will not work like new at all! Fact, it will run just as slow, or even slower than it once did! The best part, dictation will be completely disabled and there will be no way to turn it back on! You must go back to basic spelling 101 and basic writing and editing skills before features will start working again. If you do not, the phone will keep getting slower and slower until eventually, There will be no way for you to use the phone or even get it back into recovery mode, ever! You must pay apple to get the phone fixed for you at this point and it will be a hefty price! Man, don't I wish such a feature exists?

By Dominic on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

that's what i ment.

This poster wanted an answer. He got multiple. I don’t think it’s worth it to give him any more information. Answers were provided. Links were provided. He has access to Google and every other search engine. No matter what anyone says, he keeps saying that it’s not his fault. And honestly there’s a point where writing to the wall would be more productive. I think we collectively reached that point a month ago. This poster seems to not have the desire to make adjustments. He similarly does not seem to have the desire to learn from any feedback we provide. Let him be. There are people on this website who really want to learn. They approach everything with curiosity, humility, and interest. We can focus on being helpful to them.

By Dominic on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

and this is the person who said he wouldn't comment on my posts?
...

By Dennis Long on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

Thanks for the laughs I liked the comment on Sprinkle mode. It was funny but you do have a good point. If you are going to dictate proof it. if there are errors fix it.

By Dominic on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

sprinkle fu mode??
dictation is so inconsistent thees days.
I might just turn it off.
I'm tipeing from my m1 mack air and not using dictation

By Dennis Long on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

Turn it off and type normally. If you have trouble with the on screen keyboard and you know Braille get a Hable one Braille keyboard. I recommend it highly.

By Siobhan on Thursday, July 27, 2023 - 11:08

Good lord what an interesting thing to wakeup to this morning!! I wholeheartedly agree that this behavior is unacceptable and will not continue if I have anything to say about it. Should the poster keep up this dismissive attitude on future accessibility questions I will make no bones about politely contacting the admins so something may be done about it. Jonathan great post about sprinkle DFMU mode however all I can picture is a huge male dog urinating everywhere as the phone dies. gross yeah but hey whatever. Now Dominic, Glad you began typing on your computer. Keep typing and before hitting send, read it through. I am not perfect as I've told and others have seen before. I am now changing this. so there's no need to comment that I'm being mean or whatever because you've gotten answers. Oh I'd also recommend you do not update your Mac to any developer beta because I am even frustrated with some bugs that exist as of now. but i did that knowing what I was getting into. Stay safe from the hot temperatures all.

By Dominic on Sunday, August 27, 2023 - 11:08

Right guy tried to enter DFU mode on an iPhone 6 and an iPad Air from 2013 to attempt to jailbreak both
It’s on the Apple security measures block you from going into the mode, which is why I couldn’t get into it
That’s what it seems like anyway
I don’t want to try this on my esse, since I really don’t want to accidentally call emergency services and get cop car after cop car at my door
