Hi, I have a SE3. the question is do i Upgrade now to the 14 pro max or wait? I would like responses both ways. Please give your opinion as to why both ways please. What are the advantages of the iPhone 14 pro max? Thanks.
If it were me I would definitely wait.
Firstly, it's worth waiting to see what the 15 will have to offer, so you can make a more informed decision.
Secondly, even if you do decide that the 14 is what you want, it will be cheaper to buy once the 15 has come out.
Dave
Hi,
Really this is mainstream advice: unless you're phone is broken forcing your hand, don't buy a new iPhone in the summer. Once mid September comes around you can more accurately assess what's available. Most likely the new iPhone 15s will be awesome, and 14 models will be $100 USD or so cheaper and you can evaluate if the $100 buys something you must have.
I’m a fan of the SE series here, and I’m not going to be biased, believe me I’ve played around with those big iPhone pro models
There is nothing too interesting within the cameras. You can use seeing AI in all other camera recognition apps perfectly on every iPhone
it’s too damn big! Really, do you really want a 6.7 inch fun in your pocket! You would need, really deep pants pockets
Battery life isn’t worth it, especially if you’re near charger all the time
Biometric authentication, in my opinion touch is easier
small form factor, I like the small small factor of the SE
1 face ID can be used by the blind so please don't act like it can't.
2 better battery life.
3 Lidar.
4 better speakers.
5 better chips in the pro and pro maxes then the SE.
First of all, Face ID is absolute trash! I tried using it on my iPhone 12, it was smooth sailing, but how the hell are you supposed to know where to point your face! Next, light. Light isn’t much of a big deal, really
Battery life, again, that really doesn’t matter especially if you’re near a charger, or near a battery case
Speakers, I can agree with
But still, do you really want that much of a big size just for that, the iPhone 14 Plus will give you all of those benefits, except bladder, and the iPhone 14 Plus actually has a better battery life than the iPhone 14 pro series, for a smaller size as well
practice like anything. Are you saying in 30 minutes you knew every gesture and could use your iPhone in 30 minutes? So how would you know where to look practice. The Plus doesn't have Lidar. Lidar has some of the following features
1 door detection.
2 point and speak coming in iOS 17.
3 any new features that will use Lidar down the road in iOS 18, 19, 20, 21. ETC.
Pretending to look at a phone to unlock it just seems unnatural to me, being totally blind.
I wouldn't mind having the satellite communications ability in case I was in an area with no cell service and had an emergency, but I hope I would never need to use it. I'm waiting for the lidar to actually be good for something, I don't think it is quite yet. If GPS were better, they'd have me, right now no gps is really what I'd call accurate enough for someone who can't see.
I could easily spend the money for a major upgrade. The trouble is, unless it is truly something useful, I'd feel bad blowing the money.
You are completely dodging my points, Dennis
Because of the less camera features, including no always on display and no dynamic island, the iPhone 14 Plus, even though it’s using a smaller unit with smaller form factor and an older processor, actually has better battery life than the iPhone 14 pro Max
I would still go for the 14+, better battery life, smaller screen, not really any of the difference against the 14 pro, most of the features of sighted people anyway
Please stop spreading the myth that Face ID can not be used by the blind or is “trash”. It is incredibly reliable these days, and can most definitely be used.
Also, there’s no need for the combative tone Dominic. Dennis did not dodge your points, he simply has different priorities to you.
Dave
To be fair I haven’t used Face ID in a few years since my iPhone I was trying to Face ID on got taken because you know reasons, and I don’t have another device with Face ID on it to use
One thing I can say with clear and perfect doubt is that Google and sign some space recognition absolute trash! Fingerprint readers are
I second all Oliver's points. FaceID is so good I barely have to aim my iPhone 13 in my general direction. I'd still like TouchID though.
I'm hoping for USB-C. In a money saving world LiDAR would come to all models, otherwise I am also probably thinking Pro to try the point and read feature.
In my humble opinion, I prefer the Pro Max.
Of course, this is all a matter of personal preferences.
What do you think works best for you?
Some people prefer large phones. I am one of them.
I think and feel that I can read better or explore easier.
Other people like smaller phones only because they put them in their pocket. Not me. I always buy a case with a clip that I attach to my belt.
If you think a small phone is the way to go, go ahead. But, honestly, I recommend you to wait until September so that you can check out the iPhone 15 and, should you decide that that is not your phone, then go for a 14. You would be saving money that way. Besides, if you decide to go for the iPhone 14 instead of the iPhone 15, that way you will be able to say that you played around with an iPhone 15 and did not like it, or did not choose it for whatever reasons.
Now, talking about the Face ID, I think it works really cool.
Sincerely, I get that a lot of people miss touch ID. I can honestly tell you that I don't. If it should come back, that would be fine with me. It doesn't bother me whether I have it or not. For me, Face ID works awesome.
By the way, I am totally blind, so I know that I am not looking at the phone.
I say this, because Dominic keeps insisting that Face ID is trash and it cannot be used.
I've never had a problem with Face ID.
I am happy with it.
Have a wonderful day.
I can deal with small phones, even that a 5.5 to 6.1 inch I can handle. But anywhere above six point, basically 6.7 inches, and you won’t catch me using it! My hands are too small, remember I’m only 4 foot 11
Dominic Face id is accessible. I am missing one eye and I'm able to use it with or without glasses!!!! Your claim is absolutely 10000000000000000000 absurd Please quit spreading false myths that face id is not accessible. I had the same misconseptions as a lot of blind people but after I tried it I found to my pleasure it is accessible. I would like to see touch ID come back but that is a preference and I wouldn't not get a pro or pro max because of face ID. BTW I own a 13 pro. I wish I had gotten the pro max model.
You'll be better able to make this decision in September. I find face ID annoying but usable, but I would definitely prefer touch ID if available. I like the feel of the promax models, and will probably stay with my iPhone 11 ProMax if I don't like the 15, and will by the promax again if I do like the 15. But its really too early to tell before everything comes out and we know which of the roomors are true.
I am using IPhone 12 for 3 years.

Rumours of delays
Every single year there are rumours like this about delays for one reason or another. The words pinch of salt come to mind.
