Hi, since the native weather app for iOS is a complete mess, I would like to try with another app, but I have seen that here people have two main weather apps, so I would like to share my requirements and hope you could help me to chooce the best app for me.
The one with the best worth for its price.
I need the one with the best Apple Watch integration.
The one most precise with the weather forecast
Any other opinions you could share in order to get my choice are well received.
Thanks in advance.

weather gods
I have been and am still a wg fan. There are a few reasons. 1 Weather Gods are very accurate. 2 Weather gods you have the ability for favorites. Carrot weather doesn't have that feature. If I'm going to pay a premium you aren't going to limit me to one city for alerts. For that reason alone Carot weather is out.
3 you can have WG start directly in Favorites.
WG
Agree. Also Scott is very responsive to input and he respond to question ASAP.
WG and Native Weather App for Me
I recently tried out Carrot Weather after hearing about it. A former neighbor demonstrated CW in his car a few years ago when he and I were on the way to a summer bash. With CW you can have different levels of professionalism which I personally found rather enjoyable. Others might not care for this though. But I didn't find it too accessible with VoiceOver, so I removed it. WG plays weather sounds, which can be toggled on/off and which I find extremely helpful and entertaining. As others have stated WG is accurate, and the lead developer Scott is active on here. WG is well worth the small price and I highly recommend you pay the gods a visit. But the final decision is yours to make. Or, if you have enough memory and dough to spend you might want to keep both apps around and see which one best fits the bill. As far as Apple's native weather app is concerned, I've used it on my phone and Mac and haven't had too many problems. Sometimes the weather isn't that complete for each day, but I think that has been fixed. Hth and good luck.
WG
One thing to consider is that if we have suggestions, Scott is willing to listen and he is motivated to make sure his WG is very accessible. I am sure that it will keep getting better.
I'd say "Go with Carrot Weather
Good morning,
I agree that the weather app is currently a mess for us as Voiceover users
As a result, I’ve switched to Carrot weather.
We had a really bad thunderstorm in my area a few months ago & the native weather app never even bothered to notify me or if it did, the notifications were very delayed.
That's actually the main reason I switched apps.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Carrot issues
Carrot is my personal choice, but it's not perfect. Specifically, there are several weather data sections which are completely inaccessible to VoiceOver. For example, add the precipitation section (either graph or icon) to your layout, and VoiceOver will only locate and speak the title of the section. The actual data for the section is completely invisible to VoiceOver (either by flicking or touch). The same is true for a few other sections. Additionally, customizing layouts is tricky, as the list of currently enabled layouts is seen by VoiceOver as a single UI element, so you have to disable VoiceOver and try to tap in the right place to get to the layout that you want to edit.
I first reported these issues a couple of years ago. The developer made positive noises at the time about resolving them, but there has been no improvement.
I stick with the app because it's generally the most reliable for forecasts and I also like the ability to switch between different weather data sources. Also, it is actually very accessible for most of the data that matters to me.
As much as I appreciate the great accessibility of Weather Gods and Scott's engagement with our community, I just don't like the app's layout. It may look nice visually and be fully accessible, but I find it simply too busy, in that it feels hard work getting to the basic weather data that I want.
Carrot issues
If Carrot is your app of choice keep on the dev. I won't use Carrot because you only get alerts and notifications for your current location.
Right now I use both. I'm…
Right now I use both. I'm just waiting on wg to get lightening alerts and once or if it does I'll cancel cw.
Carrot Weather
I've been using Carrot for years now and quite like it. The Fenrir layout has been the easiest to use with Voiceover and I haven't found any major issues with the app on phone or watch. I've gotten more current news through her snarky remarks than just about anywhere else too and that's always kind of funny.
carrot weather snark comments
I love the snark comments that is a huge thing it has going for it.
I'm not sure Weather gods will have lightning alerts
If i remember right, scot's said he might be able to do that but it would cost a lot of money to input the data and something about servers. sorry coffee didn't kick in yet. I have my Boston news to tell me when they're's lightning right now so that works just fine.
Both
I use both apps. I've had some trouble getting WG notifications to stop at one place when I'm in another, so I disabled them and rely on Carrot's notifications. But I like the layout and different sounds of WG. Carrot has been my go-to for years.
I currently use CARROT Weather
I really love cat weather, I love that you can change its personality, from friendly to oversight, etc!
Most of the features of weather current weather need a subscription though, which is kind of upsetting considering it’s like kind of expensive
I prefer weather gods on that one
Weather Gods Lightning
Thanks everybody who supports Weather Gods :)
Yes, I am working on lightning. At the moment I got side tracked updating all the widgets and complications to use the new Apple way, so we can be setup for iOS 17 night stand and Watch OS10 widgets - lots of changes coming up! All the widgets and complications are very accessible, even more so!
I current have lightning working in a beta, and yes Siobhan is correct - the data is very expensive.
I am trying my best to enable grandfathered users to get the lightning add on as part of the grandfathering, although I'm extremely worried I just end up with a large data bill. Premium subscription will definitely have the lightning data as I can manage and understand the costing better.
Expect to see 4.2.0 with all the new widgets and complications changes in the next couple of weeks and then lightning shortly after.
Widgets
WG has it for iOS 16 and better for iOS 17. What about the other app? Just asking.
grandfathered users
Scott from my point of view if we grandfathered users need to pay a part of the cost I would rather do that so your app can stay around for years. I hope others would feel the same way. This is the best weather app on the Plannet.
Not sure how to write this,
If you ask the grandfathered users like myself, put in say ten bucks, then raise the sub price say fifteen, would that not offset the cost? I'm not trying to stick it to the subscribers, yet if I change devices like i might soon and there might become an issue restoring a purchase, I wouldn't want to only go back to the subscriber model. can not wait for lightning as I'm in fl and I have weather from Ma, telling me there's lightning .2 miles from my location. Btw, the weather apps i use from boston are free. WCVB and Boston25 I mention those in case you might get in contact withthem to again offset the cost of development as I've never paid a subscription for either app. Hope i helped.
Subscriptions
Thanks for the suggestion Siobhan. I'm going to try and make it work, will probably have to get creative with how WG detects lighting at a distance and then homes in as it gets closer.
Not sure if you have the extended forecast subscription but there is basic lightning counts with the storm threats feature. You also get a nice summary of the storm, how far aways, distance, whether it's rotational, tornadic etc. The local storm reports are also great for finding out what's happening in the neighbourhood.
grandfathered users
Thanks Dennis, hopefully I can work something out for grandfathered users.
Weather gods all the way!
I am in Australia and love the weather gods app for it's ease of use and how you can have different world wide locations in favourites, I have friends in specific cities in Florida, England, Canada, and New Zealand so it's great being able to really pinpoint the location to their exact local county or city. and the sounds are fantastic! :) The main reason why I switched to using the app, plus hearing how dedicated Scott is to accessibility! Keep up the good work mate!
