I think iOS 17 is messing with my battery health

Apple Beta Releases

Before we start I’m just gonna say, I’m bad when it comes to charging my phone
Anyway so I got this phone in January it’s an iPhone SE 2022
Alright so as I said I’m not that good with charging, because you know,
Anyway so my battery health was at 100% when I got this phone, and the battery health I think went around maybe 99 when I was on iOS 16
But when I was on iOS 17, the battery help when I think from around 99 to 94%
Now again I know I’m not that good at like when it comes to charging my phone but I’m not that bad. so what the hell is going on
There should be no reasoning to why this is happening, like sure I watch YouTube video or two but that’s the only help me sleep at night, but again I’m not that bad with my batteries and my chargers
So why is it now on iOS 17 my battery health is going down faster than on iOS 16
Can somebody please help me answer that

Your Feedback is Important to Improving Accessibility on Apple platforms

Don't assume that Apple is aware of a bug or that your report won't make a difference - submitting bug reports directly to the company helps them reproduce and resolve the issue faster. Your report may provide crucial information. The more reports they receive, the higher the priority they give to fixing the bug.

If you're using a beta version, use the Feedback Assistant on your device to submit feedback and bug reports. If you're using a public release, follow the instructions on this page.

We all warned you of Beta releases and encouraged you about not installing it!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I suspect if this is a bug it will be addressed down the line!!!!!!!!!!!

It could be a bug but it could also be a hardware problem
We can’t always blame everything on bugs anymore
Sadly

It’s not necessarily an issue at all. Batteries degrade over time, and the health measure does not decline at a steady or predictable rate. If you check it intermittently, you will sometimes see jumps.
Battery charge often goes down faster when on beta software, but the overall health is unlikely to be affected, other than the fact that you may be charging more often, meaning you’re going through more charge cycles.

Ive had my iPhone SE-3 since it came out in March 2022 and my battery is still at 100% capacity with these so-called optimizations disabled. I used to have similar issues with previous phones when I let Apple interfere with my charging habits. Your mileage of course may vary but, I feel that I do a better job of taking care of my battery my own way.

I don’t know what it was on iOS 16 but I think it was 97% or whatever
But after I uploaded iOS 17 it went down faster.
I’m gonna try turning off optimised battery charging
I really don’t know what’s going on any more

I was watching someones YouTube video and it said that their battery health actually went up! How insane, right?
That's what I said.
Before updating to iOS 17, I had 100% battery health.
I updated to iOS 17 , I had 98 percent.
On b2 it was the same.
Yesterday, when I updated to beta 3, it went down to 97 percent.
I will report this to apple. You are right that it maybe isn't a bug, but I've never seen a battery go that fast. I had an iPhone SE 2020 for about a year, and it was at 98% for a lot of the time despite me updating to iOS 14 beta and iOS 15 betas.
These are just my findings, but yes, this may not be a bug but the batteries aging.

Everything iOS 17 is completely unreliable. It will essentially be based on the fact that you are using Beta software that is in deep testing. Even if it is hardware, there is no way to know unless you downgrade to iOS 16. All anyone can do here when using Beta software is recommend that you report the possible issue to apple on the feedback app, downgrade to a public release of iOS and see if the issue persists, or put up with it until iOS 17 is fully released into the wild.

This is beta software you will have bugs. You have two options. 1 report and downgrade. 2 put up with it and hope it is fixed soon. However to verify this you will need to install every update for proper verification.

As others have said, this is beta software, and you should expect things like this to happen. I just want to add that during the first couple of days after installing a new OS release, iOS does a bunch of background tasks that might drain the battery at a faster pace temporarily.

By Ash Rein on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 - 20:41

Again. This is Beta. A lot of the software is unpredictable. You can’t make posts like these using beta software. Not unless you’re willing to go through the test cycle. If you’re noticing issues, the point is to see if others are going through it, and then report the issue directly to Apple. I would recommend that you go back down to iOS 16 for now and not use beta at all. And if you want to make posts about your battery life and have more serious communication, people can assist you while you are on the public release.

By Dominic on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 - 20:41

Background refresh tasks have nothing to do with the battery, battery health and maximum capacity.
This has nothing to do with battery life, it’s just about the unexpected drop and maximum capacity that’s never happened before

By Ash Rein on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 - 20:41

Whatever you think you’re asking, the answer is always going to be that you are running beta software that is unreliable. You cannot ask that general question while on beta. You can ask it while on a public release. There’s no way to answer you if you’re running software that is going to be as buggy as it is. Get on iOS 16 and then come back and ask the question. Otherwise you pretty much have to live with it until the public release of iOS 17 and then come back and ask it.

The battery drains much quicker on iOS 17 beta. It drains quicker on iOS 17, beta three. Battery percentages are not reliable on iOS 17 beta. There have been multiple radars submitted regarding that specific issue

By Dominic on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 - 20:41

I’m not talking about battery life, I’m talking about the maximum capacity
The maximum capacity job for no reason, from 97 to 94
That shouldn’t be happening, and I know because I have tested lots of preview software in the past and it has never happened before

By Brooke on Tuesday, July 25, 2023 - 20:41

It's that simple. When you take the chance of running a beta, you also have to expect the unexpected. I would assume you were advised against running a beta on your primary device.

Yes Dominic, but part of what people are saying is that in the beta, the battery health percentage being displayed may not actually be accurate.
