BC4000 - Civilization Model

Category

Description of App

The BC4000 APP is a turn-based strategy game. The game has an online mode, a hot seat mode and a single player mode. You take on the role of the ruler of a civilization, attempt to build an empire in competition with other civilizations. The game begins in 4000 BC, before the Bronze Age, and can last through to AD 2100 with Space Age.

Along with the larger tasks of exploration, warfare and diplomacy, you have to make decisions about where to build new cities, which improvements or units to build in each city, when to expand your empire by new settlers, and how to transform the land surrounding the cities for maximum benefit. From time to time your cities may be harassed by units from other nations or barbarians. You should protect borders and maintain zones of control.

You can gain a large advantage if your civilization is the first to learn a particular technology and put it to use in a military or other context. Since only one technology may be researched at any given time, the order in which technologies are chosen makes a considerable difference in the outcome of the game and generally reflects your preferred style of gameplay. Please carefully consider about forms of government, tax rates and research priorities.

You can also build Wonders of the World after obtaining the prerequisite knowledge. These wonders are important achievements of society, science, culture and defense, ranging from the Pyramids and the Great Wall in the Ancient age, to Copernicus' Observatory and Magellan's Expedition in the middle period, up to the Apollo program in the modern era. Each wonder can only be built once in the world, and requires a lot of resources to build, far more than most other city buildings or units. Wonders provide unique benefits to the controlling civilization. For example, Magellan's Expedition increases the movement rate of naval units.

The game can be won by conquering all other civilizations or by winning the space race by reaching the star system of Alpha Centauri.

The strategy logic and user interactive concept are inspired by the original Sid Meier's Civilization. Most graphics, music, map and text materials come from public domain licensed by Creative Commons License or General Public License.

We should report it.

The crucial thing is to enter the ad with voiceover turned off. So turn off voiceover and then press the view ad button. You can see how much time is remaining using voiceover, and when the reward is granted you must tap on the top right of your screen, again with voiceover turned off.

Letā€™s vote for our dr. Jianfeng Wu so his game gets this yearā€˜s award.
By God this developer deserves to get the award for his commitment to accessibility and all the tireless effort he has put towards this goal.
Now is the time to give something back to him for all he has given us.

Even though it's a year old, I'd be interested to hear the podcast all the same.

Even though the interview took place, and you can still find it on my club page on Clubhouse, it was during a time last year, where I had a lot of stuff going on. Thank you for bringing this to my attention, and I will upload this into a podcast episode in the next few days. Sorry for any inconveniences. I am only one-man team though, so sometimes things get lost in the shuffle.

I have reported the issue on closing ads using VoiceOver both on the developerā€™s email and twitter. I also asked him to consider a paid option to remove ads. Letā€™s see what become of it. While I do appreciate workarounds, they shouldnā€™t be relied upon permanently, nor should they be used as an excuse to not make improvements. The golden apple election is here, and while the good doctor will get my vote regardless of this issue, others might be put off completely by it.

To those who love the map editor like I do, youā€™ll soon be able to change city distances in the editor also in order to support custom cities. Me and my fellow beta testers are already enjoying this, so the public may get it soon. Now letā€™s live out some fantasies.

By Reg on Friday, December 23, 2022 - 19:20

This is the only game I'm actually asking for adverts. 1 to support the developer and 2 to progress the game. Not being able to dismiss the ads easily is killing the game play exterience. It's been a while now, is it not fixable? If so, is there a functionality to let us buy it?

It's so adictive, but the fix is taking so long, I think I've broken the adiction which is a shame for the game.

By DMNagel on Friday, December 23, 2022 - 19:20

The dev canā€™t fix it otherwise. However, heā€™s also very much against in app purchases, so I donā€™t know.šŸ˜«

Maybe Iā€™m just dumb, but I only discovered recently that you can pack transports, carriers, helicopters and submarines full of units in the map editor. When you double tap on a carrier for example, you get a new set of options and loaded units is one of them. Note, this option is only available when the unit is on a tile outside of a city. Soon, the public will also be able to select the veteran level for units. Given how this game is playing like a super sandbox toy, iā€™ve suggested the developer allow us to select starting gold for nations, because why not? This is, and will be the first game in history as far as I know, that will allow us the freedom to live out fantasies like this. A game? A toy? An experience? The player decide. And to think Iā€™m one of those who almost gave up on the game due to lack of understanding. now that I finally do understand it, I feel that those who doesnā€™t are not only missing out on a game, but also on an opportunity to build worlds and live out fantasies. For as long as this game exist, I will never ever vote for another golden apple again, unless we get to vote for two games.

I think at this point, I might like the map editor more than the actual game. Lol.

By DMNagel on Monday, January 23, 2023 - 19:20

I feel the same. World building is super fun. I wish a youtube video for this game could exist, as I feel that some people seriously donā€™t know what theyā€™re missing. Unfortunately, Joe Biden would probably be the only one to appreciate my narrating lol. I only do videos without narration.

Now assigning units to a battle group saves you the time of moving one unit at a time.
First assign the units you want to a battle group and then open movable units, then switch to specific battle group, then tap right top button ā€œgotoā€ to set destination of this group.
Furthermore, saves and maps can be saved to iCloud.

Today, I saw that some people is already on version 1.9.0. The thing is, Iā€™m still on 1.8.9, so for some reason, I didnā€™t get the new beta update. Did anyone else experienced this? If not, then I wonder why it is that I somehow fell behind? Can it be that I have been removed from the beta list?

By Panais on Thursday, February 23, 2023 - 19:20

Version 1.9 skipped test flight and was directly implemented on the App Store game. I had the same issue and I reinstalled the game from the App Store in order to get the latest version.

By DMNagel on Thursday, February 23, 2023 - 19:20

For a moment I was worried lol.

I'd love to be able to play an online game with a friend, but right now, the mechanic to join a game created by someone else seems inaccessible. I can create online games, but neither I (nor my friend), can seem to join one. When I asked about playing with friends in the Discord, this is the response I got:

Itā€™s not impossible to organize an online game with a friend. When you press the + if theres any open matches you will be put in. If this happens play the game and end the turn; then just press the + again. Eventually you will be able to choose the map; create you own game and have your friend press the +. Since theres not a lot of people playing online your friend should match with your game.
The question is, how can I make this work with VoiceOver?

By Panais on Thursday, March 23, 2023 - 19:20

Go to online game from the main menu and then press on the add button. Thatā€™s all youā€™re done.

By The_pineapple on Friday, June 23, 2023 - 19:20

When I try to flick left and right along the X axis, the app seems to freeze for a few seconds. Is anybody else having this issue or is it just my phone?

By Panais on Friday, June 23, 2023 - 19:20

If you zoom in the map, you can move around normally without lag. The trick is to zoom enough so the lag is gone, but not so much as. for only a very small part of the map to be visible. there is a balance to be struck.
