Hi everyone,
With WWDC’s keynote just around the corner, I’m excited to catch up on all the latest developments from Apple. However, I’ve been having a bit of trouble watching the videos on the Apple Event page. Specifically, when I use my iPhone to watch the videos and turn on subtitles, VoiceOver doesn’t seem to be able to read the subtitles out loud to me. I’ve checked that the audio description switch is turned on, but this hasn’t helped.
I was wondering if anyone else has had this issue or has found a solution. Ideally, I wouldn’t need to rely on subtitles to understand the English being spoken in the videos, but for now, any tips or tricks would be greatly appreciated.
It would be great if I could get this issue resolved before WWDC starts so that I can have a smooth viewing experience. If anyone has any advice or suggestions to share, I would be grateful!
Looking forward to hearing your thoughts. Thanks in advance!

kverbosity is your friend
go to settings>accessibility>VoiceOver>verbosity>media descriptions, and set it to speach. good luck. I’ll be watching the WWDC 23 keynote as well.
I tried but it didn't work
Thank you Daniel ,I've been setting it up like you said, but it's not working.I contacted the Apple Accessibility Team and they didn't give me any constructive feedback.
really? I’m surprised
wow. Apple really dropped the ball on this one. i’ll check to see if I can get it working.
Selecting the subtitle language
In addition to enabling the reading of subtitles as Daniel mentioned, you also need to select the language that you would like subtitles for. There is a button to do this in the video player.
I have selected the correct language for subtitles
In fact, the subtitles are correctly displayed on the screen. If I turn on screen recognition, I can read the subtitles, but you should know that using screen recognition to read the subtitles is very unreliable.I have a rough idea. I have an iPhone 6S Plus running ios 14 that I don't use much. This morning I tested the video page of an Apple Event and the subtitles read correctly. So, for nothing better, I'll have to use that old iPhone on the day I watch the WWDC keynote.
