Hi,
If you want to change to list layout all you need to do is make sure you're on the main screen. Select the current month, or any month really. Then, at the top of the screen you'll see a button that says list.
Hope this helps!

Can I than go by headings through the days? It would be great if Applevis could do a podcast on this to explain it this calendar app is a real pain.

There is a paid app called VO calendar, which is linked to the apple calendar. It gives a weekly view of the calendar. You can make new entries too.

I don't use the calendar app at all. I use Siri exclusively for the Calendar and it works great because I agree the calendar app is one of the most poorly designed apps ever, maybe even worse than the contacts app and that's saying something.

The Apple reminders app has capabilities, that might suit your needs here. You can create folders, for example. So if you have five people on your calendar with birthdates marked in there, you can take that data, create a reminder for the birthdate, and then save the birthday reminder in a folder that you designate specifically for keeping track of your birthdays people. You can do this with anything, appointments, And you could even break it down into veterinarian appointments, doctors appointments, dentist appointments, a folder for everything, if you want it like that.

You can have reminders repeat annually. You can attach them to a message, so that every time you have a conversation with that person, a reminder will pop up with the data that you put in it being spoken to you, until you clear that reminder off.

If color coding things is something you like and/or need, it's also in the Reminders app.

This might be a better solution for the calendar for you? I have found that, with just a little bit of practice, when creating a reminder, you can say all of the right things, in the right timing order, and Siri is great at setting things up. I go back and verify, it's quite good, as long as I get all of my words structured within a couple of sentences, in one breath. It's worth working out the right sequence, because I find Siri quite effective in this area.

I encourage you to at least play with it, and see if you can rethink how you might handle your calendar needs, but inside of a different app.
