Hi as the subject line, I baught in app purchase in 2018 for full life time.
On that time you dint mention, that after 4 or 5 years you will ask for repurchase the app.
Just now on 12 Feb 2023 when I lonch app it asking to buy new subscription either life time or monthly or weekly and annual
Now it showing new pricing according US Dollar increase and Indian rupee decrease.
Pls explain either its a bug or new changes had dun, thats why it asking to buy.
If it is an official changes and new purchase in app required, then you have announced new pricing and those who already has purchased in 2 or 4 years before they should buy again.
Pls throw some light, also other users who already using life time purchased, are they also getting this promt in there CashReader app? Asking any subscribtion or life time purchase again.

I just used it today and got the same prompt. I was about to spend another $30 but decided to click, restore purchases. do that and your lifetime subscription will be active once again. I absolutely hate the subscription model developers are going with though I understand why but I don't have to like it :) Hope that explains things.

First of all, thank you Siobhan for this very helpful tip. It's a shame that this developer doesn't make this obvious, resulting in people needlessly purchasing another subscription. I probably would've done the same had I not read this thread. I sincerely hope that anyone who originally purchased the lifetime subscription, and mistakenly paid them more money because they didn't know better, is given a refund and an apology.

@julian, love the name, like I said I nearly did as much. I always try the restore purchases first in case it thinks oh you did buy it. I'm glad i saved you money because I absutely hate how devs are going with this and not saying hey give methe outright cost and that's it.

Hello guys,
I am a developer of Cash Reader and I would like to apologize for this misleading message.
First, nobody had to purchase the app again. Even if anyone would try to purchase again, Apple would return the message that this purchase was already made in the past and restore it automatically.

If you are interested in technical details, here is what happened.
Every app is guaranteed by Apple to have on-device information called Invoice with the history of all purchases and their state. This is the single source of truth and every app depends on it.
Cash Reader reads the invoice to know whether you purchased the app, if the purchase was a subscription, whether it is still active or if you have a lifetime license.
However, this week, for some users, this invoice was deleted by the system and not available when you opened the app. It is not our fault because this is solely handled by the iOS, and we just read it.
So what Cash Reader did. It tried to read the invoice and it was blank. This implies there is no active purchase. But Cash Reader also knows that the last time you used the app, the purchase was active. The only conclusion it could make is that your purchase has expired. Therefore it showed you the standard message about expired purchase with instructions that you can choose a new plan or use the limited app for free.

There is no fix I could make to prevent this from happening and I don't know the root cause why system deleted invoice for some users. But at least in a new update the expiration message also suggest to restore purchase in case you think that your purchase should still be active. The button to restore is newly also on the same screen to make it easier.
Technically the restore purchases will just download again the missing invoice.

I hope that I could explain to you the root cause and that nobody was affected in a way that they would need to purchase the app again. I hope that Apple will fix their issue and we will get fewer surprises. We would rather focus on new features then be bombarded with emails that something which worked for years stopped working out of the blue.
And whoever reads to this point will be between first to learn that the highly anticipated feature to convert banknote into your home currency will be introduced in next release :)

Tomas Jelinek, thank you for clarifying, and updating the prompt and the process for restoring purchases. I certainly appreciate a developer who steps up and does the right thing. Looking forward to the new feature.

If i have this right, converting a bank note to home currency, would mean say I have a fifty euro note that tells me it's fifty American dollars, is that what I'm thinking this is? Or do I have this confused? Thx for any explanation

By Tomas Jelinek on Wednesday, February 22, 2023 - 11:06

Hi Siobhan,
you get it right. We are just testing it internally.
Cash Reader will automatically select what it thinks is your home currency.
For example if you live in the USA it would be us dollar, for user from Japan it would be yen and so on. You can of course change it to any world currency.
If you happen to be on vacation and identify a banknote of a different currency, the app will identify that banknote and additionally tells you its value in your home currency.
For example someone travels from USA to Philippine and app will say:
"1000 Philippine peso is worth $18.20"
I am looking forward to this release and hope that it will be a nice addition to our features.
