AirPods Pro 2 are laggier than AirPods Pro 1

There’s something very wrong with the AirPods Pro 2. I just upgraded from the AirPods Pro 1 and I think there are some issues. Voiceover seems a lot more laggy when using them when compared to the AirPods Pro 1 - they don’t read what’s on the screen as quickly as the first gen.

Another issue is that they sometimes go out of sync with each other. Voiceover is like a millisecond faster on one ear than the other so it echoes.

The first issue is the most frustrating and I’ll be sticking to the 1st gen until the 2nd gen aren’t as laggy.

Wait for the next firmware update. See other threads for temporary solutions.

Do you have a link to the temporary solutions? Didn’t know it was a known issue.

I got actually a very snobby response from apple support about this. I tried uploading my sys diag to them via dropbox using thier twitter account and they said they cant' except that. bull crap. come on, it's a freaking file to give to yoru support team. I sent the same report to feedback.apple.com so I really earge you guys to do the same. do not deal with apple support on twitter. they are of no help. They btw wanted to know what region I was fun to do some stupid demographics stuff. I also refust to have a call with a senior advisor as the last time they were snobbish at me as they thought they knew more than I did. I proved them wrong, that at the time was a sim card issue with my phone as I knew all along.

I regret to inform that even with the latest beta firmware and iOS there's no fix to the out-of-sync issue. Very irritating. Sure, you can wait ten seconds with no sound and resume normal service, but if you flick quickly enough with VoiceOver you're almost certain to start it off again. I do love the vast improvement in battery and transparency mode but I agree that you may want to keep the originals or other cans on standby for a while longer.

I can flick very fast and cannot reproduce the lag issue. this using waht ever I updated to on friday when I got my pair.

My AirPods updated overnight to the new firmware that was released yesterday.. I've already experienced the strange audio effect mentioned above, so it seems that Apple hasn't fixed this. Conor me extremely disappointed.

Here my Airpods Pro 2 are as responsive, if not more responsive than, the first-gen Pro. Of course, I do see the audio synch issue with VoiceOver very occasionally, but it is resolves as soon as I, say, disable/re-enable noise-canceling. I really like the new Pro 2 pair I picked up few days ago - they really surpass the first-gen Pro Airpods in many aspects.

I was about to post about this issue as well. My AirPods Pro, to, are even more responsive than the previous pros. I also noticed that they connect to the phone. Faster too. Since this is happening to a lot of people though, is there a way to report this to Apple?

It's usable, and I tend to get used to anything, so I don't honestly know if I'm lagging or not. All I know is, it seems to improve on the original AirPods Pro.

Oh, and the new firmware (which I could only obtain, BTW, by moving back onto the non-beta track) does seem to have reduced, if not quite eliminated, the silly sync syndrome I was seeing earlier. YMMV.

Maybe if all get the firm version that just came out might help.

Updated Comment to reflect the fact that I came across the Find My network setting relating to my AirPods Pro 2s. Switched it off and wasn’t experiencing the issues I’ve discussed below this update. Turned the Find My Network feature back on as it is pretty important if you want to be able to locate your Pods and it is still a bit laggy and latent but, not as bad as it was before. Almost like the find my feature is continually on and slowing down the performance of the AirPods. I’m using an iPhone 14 pro max and the AirPods Pro 2nd gen with Voiceover. Currently reading through the comments and now typing with my Magic Keyboard and honestly, the latency, connection crackling from side to the other and even the stereo channel swaying from side to side all make for an incredibly poor experience to be honest. Not great when you’ve just spent shy of £2000 on Apples stuff.

I also switched back to original Airpod Pros. Tried 2 pairs. Apple wanted me to send mine in and give them a credit card before they would send me another set, and wouldn't guarantee that the new ones would be any better. So I would have been without Airpods. If I'm giving them a card why wouldn't they do like they used to and send me a kit to send them back when I got the new ones? i have never had such bad support from Apple. And i also found them snooty.

But if you really want to see the Airpod Pro 2nd gen screw up. Call someone on Facetime or Facetime audio. Share some content with share play. Share your screen. Make sure screen curtain is off. Start BARD Mobile and play a book, or maybe a podcast on Overcast. Have voiceover running. Then listen to Voiceover break up and the entire experience degrade into hell. No problems with the original pros. This is on my sE2020. Another problem with the Pro2 was it seemed to cut out all the background noise for the person on the other end of the call. Meaning they couldn't hear my environment. This was a litle disconcerting. The noise cncelation from the microphones was almost too good, so if I spoke quietly it would cut out occationally on their end, and they didn't like that. I loved the feature set of the pros, and I very regretfully returned my second set and went back to the original pros because of these problems. And unless there has been a huge change I won't be buying them again. What's the point of Share play if it won't work right on the new hardware with Voiceover. Can anyone here reproduce?

Hi all.
I bought my Airpods Pro 2. Gen right after they got released, because I loved my 1. gen so much.
Since I got them, I have experienced the same lag issues as described in this thread. That annoyed me so much, that I found them pretty much unusable, and I only used them for a few things.
I have spend countless of ours searching on the internet for any solution, but nothing seemed to work.
But, today, just a few minutes ago, I found both this thread, and the solution to the issue, which seems to have fixed the issue on my Airpods:
Turn off the setting called: Automatic ear detection.
I never thought about that. I had no idea that this could be the issue. So, why does that trigger the lag issue for some people, and not for everyone?
Peoples ears are different. Therefore, if the ear detection doesn't work as it should, it makes the airpods lag.
I'm going to test this a lot to make sure the issue is fixed. For the last 10 minutes or so, I have never been able to swipe that fast by using my Airpods. Now, I can even spell out words by using the rotor. that was previously impossible, making texting quite difficult.
So, I'm so extremely happy that the issue finally seems to have been fixed, so I finally can use my Airpods Pro 2. Gen to everything I want.
If that fixes the issue on your Airpods as well, then please help by sharing this information.
I wish you all an awesome day.

I actually created a post of month or so back towing steps to resolve lag and cut off issues. In the comments section, there’s also a shortcut that essentially makes using the solution of breeze. I ended up creating the shortcut and then assigning it to one of the voiceover, touch gestures so that every time I put on my AirPods, I can very quickly turn it on and then have no lag or Bluetooth cut off issues whatsoever

iOS 17 developer beta, and the AirPods beta also seem to mostly resolve the issue. Since installing the beta for both the AirPods and iOS 17, I haven't really needed to turn on the affirmation work around. I do not recommend installing the Airpods beta though. It will be a full release by September October, so just wait a few months.
