Depending on which iPhone you own, which you never said, it might help us be better equipped to answer your question. I, for one, have an iPhone 13 Pro Max, and I've definitely not seen any regression in terms of speed. If anything, I've noticed it may be even ever ever so slightly faster.

I have an iPhone 14 pro max…I switched off the caption panel and the problem seems to be gone

No issues. I went with the 13 pro in Nov instead of 14 pro. Only issues I have with iOS 16.3 is battery. Before battery lasted all night and now, no.

I don't even notice that about the battery. With my 13 Pro Max it works beautifully! In fact, I've never had a phone which lasted so long on one charge. It's absolutely insane!

Yet it happen to me. I start to use my iPhone at 6:00 AM with 100% and by 3 is 70%. Now is 60% and need to charge 2 times. Doing sane thing. Phone is new, got in in Nov of last year. Sad. Maybe it will fix it self. Suppose to get better after a week or 2, will see.

Hi guys, with all my respects to Apple, they did a terrible job with this update, even on a raspberry pi 3 with orca and mate it would be a little faster. I am (almost) not exagerating.
So!
First, thanks to those who mention disabling the caption panel. I don't know at all what it does but once I did it I am able to reuse my usual voice. So definitely it works for me. I have an iPhone XS, just for information purposes.
Actually, I notice that this bug seems to occure only with nuance (or whoever pocesses their license now) voices. I tested and with espeak the problems are with espeak itself :) no surprise there, and eloquence was actually working as usual.
I hope this makes things clear for everyone!
:)
Does anyone know if Apple will ever correct the problem with siri voices? I mean, since ios12 or so, when we play samples of voices, they are not at all the same than the voice voiceover motor actually uses, and I didn't anyone complaning about this, but after all blind people doesn't have any williningness to act unless they are forced to... but that's not my point here. The same problem happens with nuance voices, kmuch drammatic with the french ones, ameli fr-ca is just horrible since ios15 i think.
Anyway... Thanks!
